Wild paw paws grow in the shade of large trees in low lying areas around here

In September the paw paws are ripe. Shake the tree and they fall out and you can get the seeds out of the fruit. I get some almost every fall from a local park.
Just passin through

Where did you get the persimmons? I’d love to try them I got mine a couple years ago from Musser Forest. I checked their website and the don't offer them anymore. They don't have pawpaws now either.

Check out NAFEX (North American Fruit Explorers). They have a paw paw coordinator and can source nurseries and other contacts for you. I believe there is a nursery in Michigan that is pretty well thought of.
What I do know of paw paws is that they are adapted to wooded river bottom type land and need good rich soil to thrive. University of Nebraska has a paw paw program with trees being grown out in the open and that seems to be the most productive way to raise them.

Hang roadhit in your paw paw patch if you want good pollination. Flies are the main pollinators.

This guy bred a huge fruited version from local ones and sells them through nurseries. Peterson's Paw Paws There are also directions on germinating and growing them on the website. You might want to search videos for "tiny desk kitchen; paw paws", Peterson is in the video I'm growing some from local seeds, but they're only about 2' tall so far.

If you want lots of fruit, you need two of them, and they can't be root suckers of each other. They have a strange pollination process which prevents them from self-pollinating. I have 1 Paw Paw tree, by itself, and is loaded with fruit this year.

I have 1 Paw Paw tree, by itself, and is loaded with fruit this year. You must have one somewhere relatively nearby. They don't have to be right next to each other for pollinating insects to do their work. In my situation, I am in the middle of the suburbs with no natural areas with pawpaw trees anywhere nearby. Years ago I had 2 trees, one was a transplant and the other came from seed. I had lots of fruit! Then the wife chopped down one of them several years ago and we haven't had more than a dozen or so each year.
