Anybody putting in for it ?

Also, I was reading some posts on a bowhunting forum about lower 48 grizzlies. A common sentiment was that while lower 48 bears are considerably smaller than their Alaskan brethren, they more than make up for it in attitude . Zero experience with grizzlies anywhere so was curious.

I just tried. Applications closed July 16.

Yes I would gladly pay that, considering the alternatives that is a bargain.

I've heard the grizzlies in the lower 48 are nothing to be messed with. Not sure why they are any different than the Alaskan strains especially when considering their size.

A good size boar in WY will be around the 500 mark. Still a big ol animal! There was a total of about 6,000 people that applied for the WY tags, thats counting res and non res

That's an unusual price. Do they just sell the preference point?

I've heard that same thing about the grizzlies around here. Seems like someone is getting wacked by the bears every year.

But there is a lot greater chance for human interaction with bears in your area than in AK. I would guess that's why 'incidents' are more common.

I spent 17 years in Alaska and now have been in Wyoming for 10. While the grizzlies here are much smaller than costal brown bears, I do not think there is much difference in size between lower 48 grizzlies and interior grizzlies in Alaska or Canada.

As far as attitude, the difference I see between these bears and Alaskan bears is these bears ain't got no manners. In Alaska the law allows you to kill a bear in defense of life and property. Until recently in Wyoming you were almost better off just letting the bear chew on you awhile.

Bears are very intelligent and very trainable. A lot of these bears have learned that they can get away with just about anything. Now that they are no longer so strictly protected more problem bears may be destroyed rather than relocated. Also, when hunting starts the more aggressive and/or habituated bears will be among the first to be taken, because they will be more easily found.

Hopefully we can get some population control, because there are way to many and also, hopefully, more bears will learn that staying away from people is the smart thing to do.

Very much parallels our wolf situation, your hopeful outcome results are all we seek as well.

We deal with a few every year on our ranch, so maybe they will give me a landowner tag!!! The last one that got tipped over here was around 650lbs and I have good photos of him.

I remember watching a Fred Bear episode many years ago hunting brown bear with a bow. He had an individual with him carrying a rifle for backup. Probably a guide.
