Oklahoma FINALLY lifted the stupid daily and season limits on raccoons...

Now I can go broke chasing coons like the rest of y'all.

That does sound like a stupid regulation. Can't believe coons could be in short supply down there with all the cover you guys have

I don't know who, why, or for what reason we were saddled with those limits. But they're gone now.

Maybe if we kill enough of them the rest won't look like starved housecats.

And they bumped up the bag/possession limit on squirrels to 25/50 respectively. It was 10/20 for as long as I can remember.

...I opened this thinking you’d got ahold of a sack full of elsalvadorians or something lol

....but a man can make a few bucks with coon carcasses on the black market....especially around Juneteenth , trail rides, and Super Bowl Sunday

...and that’s your deep east Texas tip of the week lol

Will do. I doubt I hit em too hard. Our coons weren't worth much even when they were worth something. Lol

I believe the limit was there because of all the coon "hounds men" back in the day. Most of those folks are gone now, especially due to the lack of ground to run their dogs. Most EVERYTHING is leased.

Agreed. I think the idea was to keep coon numbers high for all the impromptu "tournaments" that took place.

The result was scrawny starved runts all over the place and high amounts of road kills. Lol

As far as I know we were the only state with a limit on them.

I would have settled for a reasonable season limit... The daily limit is what bugged me to no end. Coons aren't trout. Once they've gone down a drowner you can't turn em loose to catch another day.

Lots of states have limits or have had limits. If an animal is in high demand and supply is low, then limits, draws and stuff is the answer. Of course, like all answers, people find a way around them and there is wanton waste of bycatch.

Funny a State would have a limit on coon considering their numbers and not on Bobcats seeing they are a CITIES animal (Just because they are a wild cat not really endangered) seems like a special interest political type of move, coon lobby?

We actually have a limit on cats... 20 for a season. Thank goodness they didn't tack a stupid daily limit on.

I don't get too upset about it though. Around here the cats just don't seem to multiply like coons do.

Coons, beaver, and coyotes (in that order) are the 3 critters that get me land to trap.

We had a limit on coons for the same reason we can’t use snares or body grip traps as well as our “posting” regs along with other regs that don’t benefit the majority of sportsman or make any sense to help regulate predator populations. We had a long standing and very influential member on the wildlife commsion who was a big time competition coon hunter. He has since passed away and we have some new members on the commission now. I believe if anyone was willing to work on it we could get some long standing rules changed with the current wildlife commission members.
