I knew a few folks who had them as pets, they were well mannered . Soft fur. I just wished they had a furry tail, like a chinchilla

When I was a teen, my sister had a pet rat. It would regularly get out of its cage at night and crawl into bed with me. Ddn't mind so much until it started snoring and hogging all the covers... grin

Grace with "Sam" the Chinchilla. Grace is eleven now, and somewhere along the line, Sam went to a new home, for whatever reason. They are incredibly soft. smile

Lol, years ago I over heard my teenage son say to his friend on the phone, I don't know it got loose right after I brought it home!
I said, What got loose? His friend couldn't have the pet rat, so he thought he would take it!
I set a muskrat trap and caught the rat by his nut sack before I got back up stairs! Man did he squeal!

That is a cute pic of Grace with Sam grin

Years ago I saw a chinchilla at a pet store- lovely charcoal grey with those big eyes and softest fur . Reminded me of Rex rabbit fur.

I thought how fun it might be to have one- then I learned they are nocturnal ....like a flyer. I knew that wouldn't be a good compatible match for me. Maybe , like Sam, they don't mind playing in daytime cool

No doubt about it...but, they tend to attach to only one or two of the family. So, start treating it like it rules and sneak treats when no one is looking smile.

The rat is growing on me. Last night I let the hound out before bed around 2300 there happened to be a cat in the yard which got treed. Then the cat jumped into a neighbors yard and high tailed it. The rat comes out squeaking trying to do what the hound is doing.
