You may want to check out your traps from Steve Abano. The pan may hang up on the end of the spring that keeps the end in place when set. This is not a defect but over time the spring end may slip down some and deep the pan from moving all the way back. It is real easy to check. When the trap is ready to set just home the rod down and push the pan back and make sure it is not hitting the end of the spring and if it does just pull up on the end of the spring. I should say these are the mole traps.
