Anyone ever try growing oats in sand? I have a spot on my land on a new access road that we're working on. 1 part has a sand bank and section on the trail. I realize oats are not perenials, but we're going to have some logging done & I'm looking for a quick way to stabilize an area near a creek.

Google Sea Oats and see if they’ll work. They are perennials.

Oats work very well for quick cover for erosion control purposes. In the sand country, will depend on local rainfall.

mixture of annual and perennial Rye grass, very available, fairly affordable. In sand double the application rate. Add in a little Clover to attract wildlife. If really needed you can get rolls of grass matt to roll out and get instant stabilization.

Hmmm. I hadn't thought of rye grass and those straw mats. You might be on to something there.

We mainly have sand. Oats, rye and even clover will grow if fertilized and limed.
