News folks here in WI right now is all yacking about some of the states giving sale tax breaks. Got to help to parent shopping for "back to school supplies" get by.. I guess I'm wondering why people with children deserve a tax break on anything? Isn't having children a choice? Just like buying fancy car, drugs, or booze? Why is it that you get a deduction on income tax if you have kids? Why should parents get a break on clothing for back to school. Why do home owners with no children pay the same for property taxes as a family of 6..Majority of property tax here goes to public schools. Seems any tax breaks is just another political stunt to buy votes from some group.

^^^^^^^^ You've answered your own question: "Seems any tax breaks is just another political stunt to buy votes from some group"
Property tax breaks for seniors, farm subsidies (I can hear the Iowans howling already), home mortgage interest deductions, etc, etc..

I sure hope you at least feel a little remorse. Lived here in WI my whole life no idea when they started taxing clothing??? My wife was out doing some other shopping saw the Ts on sale didn't buy them just because of the tax holiday.. I'm no different than any other person in this country. I take advantage of what tax breaks the government allows me and not nears as many as I should or could..Guess I'm just dumb or lazy. What I hate most is the rob Peter to pay Paul taxes. Which are most. Example. Say they up the license fee on your car for road repair..ok we need that. But then the money goes into transportation fund. Well that is where one would think it would go...then get used to buy new buses for some city to reduce traffic to save their roads..Because it is transportation.. Then they... Politician like to say "if we knew the true cost none of us could afford it?? I say BS fix he road I don't need your stinking Bus, or pedestrian,Walk or what ever.. fair share is all a myth. Never going to happen. I'm not loosing any sleep over couple T-Shirts..ppppthinthth! Just keep getting milked daily like the rest the herd! Mac

I have never known cloths not to be taxed in Wisconsin but I can only remember back about 30 years of buying things.
Minnesota doesn't tax cloths and Wisconsin doesn't tax groceries so many on the Miss clothing shop in MINN and food shop in WIS
you can complain about it or take 5.5% off
farm and fleet was offering 25% off on a bunch of stuff and they had their FF bucks that you got for buying stuff last month. my son needed more pants so with the sale and the discount got him Carhart jeans at 23 dollars a pair according to my receipt I will take 7 dollars off.
Wisconsin followed suit with many other states , such as Alabama who started implementing a tax holiday on emergency supplies and possibly everything for a week at the beginning of august , they saw how it increased sales and helped the economy.
Wisconsin just choose to give the break on back to school shopping , cloths under a certain dollar amount , school supplies , computers and computer items like memory sticks and cables.
we were out Friday after work , got a lot of the school supplies from Target they had decent prices to start then take 5.5% off for no tax and another 5% off for having the store card thing. I will take 10.5% if I can get it

then I was mistaken , I though I had heard that many years ago , that people form Duluth went grocery shopping in Superior but people from superior went cloths shopping in Duluth maybe there was a different reason like WI not having as much tax on beer. WI only taxes beer and liqueur at the normal 5% and the county can add another 0.05% ILL does tax groceries and steep 8% plus whatever the county and city get it can get up to over 9.5% half the parking lot at the grocery store here a few miles north of the state line is ILL plates.
