There is a provision in the 2018 farm bill that will legalize the growing of hemp in all 50 states (right now hemp is still federally listed as a schedule 1 drug like it's cousin marijuana).

Anyway, it is looking like it has broad by-partisan support and will probably pass. Any of you corn and soybean guys going to consider growing hemp in your rotations?

Will it be subsidized? Or just allowed?

Have to develop markets and handling facilities, then I would look into it.

Yea it was widely grown back in the day. I agree until you have the facilities in place to process it not sure how strong the market will really be.

Hemp seeds are excellent animal feed. I know a lot of show pigeon, master breeders and a few racers, who feed irradiated hemp seeds. The radiation makes the hemp seeds sterile. Hemp seeds are to expensive for me to use as feed. If hemp seeds were cheap, I would use them as feed for my birds.

For rope yes(low to zero THC). For smoke=no. Tobacco is profitable as well I just can't produce something that I know will kill people(cancer, heart, etc.)

Sisal baling twine, which is what we use, has gotten expensive. It would be great for us if hemp baling twine was cheaper or if it brought the price of sisal baling twine down.

I don't like the plastic baling twine. It does not decay quickly or burn safely.

Is CBD extractable from hemp?

I think if you go back in history you will find the laws did not consider hemp to be different from marijuana. They still may be having the same scientific name, idk.
You may also find that the banning of hemp coincided with DuPont's invention of nylon rope and International Paper's growth. I read once that those two cooperate giants paid for the campaign to outlaw a cheap competing crop and pushed reefer madness on the public to create fear of addiction.

Paper would be a great use of the fiber as well as rope.

Problem I see is that the legal hemp drug growers in Or & Co & XX will produce enough fiber as a byproduct of the drugs. Only a subsidy in some form (processing and marketing facilities?) would make it profitable. The end factor is it would have earn as much net as existing crops.

Hemp fabric is terrific too, and there is already a market for it. When I bought it the hemp was grown in Canada I believe.

No, I won't grow it. I'll continue my small scale microgreen and greens production as is.

Right now the profit in hemp is largely in the CBD extraction market. Some growers in Colorado, Oregon, and Kentucky are grossing over $100,000 an acre.
