Don't count the number of chicks you have until AFTER they hatch!

You misting them with water to make hatching easier? Old farm gal told me that as the chicks struggled getting through the thicker shells helped with my hatching rates.

I've never heard of that before. I'll have to try it. I normally have a few eggs where the chick ends up dying before the shell is completely open. Thank you for the tip.

Almost all chick mortality is within the first 72 hours of hatching. Often there is issues with pulling the remaining yolk into the abdominal cavity and sometimes eating and drinking issues.

If you take non-pipped eggs, after the other eggs have hatched and place them in 105F water, eggs with living chicks in them, will rock vigorously. If you put them back in the incubator, they will usually quickly hatch. The eggs rock because the chicks are kicking to tell the hen they are too warm. The hot water energizes the chicks and loosens them from the shell membrane.

I just went through this myself with 59 quail eggs I had shipped from Georgia. Ended up hatching 43 I believe
