Sacks are removed to drain them better and to grind them for skunk glands or sweet skunk plus it keeps from getting the smell on the pelts once you defuse the pods the rest is a breeze. Skinning with the skunk glands in can cause problems and your losing money in doing so essence and pod wise.
Wife's a farm girl plus I save the skunks for the last thing of the day and in colder weather they can sit a bit before they get tapped, once in the house the duds go in the washer and I hit the shower right away. Last night I podded that skunk and bottled some sweet skunk for orders so it's time and odor management control.
That's just a striped skunk too bad it was early Oct and not Nov the pelt was flat and it did not tan well no telling what she would of weighed in Nov. A 10 lbs skunk here is very common with a few 14 pounders every year that show up lots of 12s with 6 lb being on the smaller end of the scale.

It's funny a lot of people think it's just easy to deal with skunks and it is until you let that genie out of the bottle then work and family often get in the way. LOL It's funny people walk into one of my buildings and their eyes open wide and I can often not even smell it. It's not for everyone that's for sure but I don't mind it as I get excited when I catch a big skunk when others would be cursing up a storm but not me.
I have it now where I don't even need to set my own cages often people will set theirs and call be when they have a Pepe even other trappers that won't mess with skunks even call to give away free skunks if I go take care of them for them.

Two seasons ago, (about a year and a half now), I had about 5-6 skunks worth of stink juice sitting in a jar on a shelf in my garage. I reached for it to add some more and knocked it over, and of course the jar shattered, sending stink juice all over the garage floor, myself, and my wife, who happened to be checking in on me. Needless to say, she was less than pleased. The garage still hasn't recovered, she says. I cant tell anymore. I learned my lesson though, now the jar never leaves the floor.
