I need a bit of magnification at a distance . I never wear sunglasses. The glasses I have now are useless as I am looking over them when shooting . All the shooting glasses on the net but how do you know they will fit you unless you pay first and then if they do not fit you are stuck . Any suggestions are welcome ! I do not know of any place in my half of Montana that has frames to try on .

Randolph Engineering, I’ll get you a link in the am. Lots of competitive shot gunners use them.

I sold the Decot glasses in my store. I had a pair made to my prescription and have shot with them for years. Interchangeable lenses and a couple frame styles and sizes.

I bought a pair online from the Rudy Project. I picked out the frames I wanted and faxed them my prescription. I am very happy with them.

I get mine from Zenni Optical, online. They cost, depending on the frame, around $20.

Simply pick a frame, pick a color, send in a couple bucks and a prescription, and you are set.

I have a 10% yellow tint for night/cloudy days, various rose tints for brighter days. I ain't sayin that's what a serious shooter would do, but, it is cheap and works for me.

For a few more bucks you could get the same from America's Best®, or any local optical shop. Just don't expect them to know anything specific to trap shooting. That's where I get my everyday glasses and prescription. The problem is my everyday stuff has bifocals which you sure don't want.

I wear WyleyX BRICK frames with prescription lenses. they are Z87-2+ frames so they count as safety glasses for work
I also get them with the transitions coating so that when it is bright out they auto become sunglasses walk back inside and they become clear again after a few minutes.

they wrap around to protect the sides also important when shooting steel , I know you said shotgun for trap , I shoot rifle , pistol and shotgun with the same glasses

I had a pair of dark tinted and a pair of clear but I found myself changing them all the time and that was a pain.

as a shotgunner your probably more interested in seeing the bird and just getting to a 20/20 correction makes sense

bullseye pistol shooters get specialized focal length glasses they with an unloaded gun get into their shooting position then someone with a tape measure measures the distance from their eye to the front sight this is the number the eye dr needs they set the eye chart at that distance and find the lenses you need to make crisp reading at that distance because they are all over the front sight focus.

action pistol shooters , and most shot gunners are into seeing the target rapid target acquisition and not extreme precision are the name of the game.

I point this out because a friend was giving the advice the other day of going to the reading glass section at the pharmacy extend your arm and put your finger tip on the reading chart and try on reading glasses till you can read at full arms length that is how you find inexpensive glasses to shoot with , BUT , he is a bulleseye guy round targets at set ranges , black target on white paper you see the front sight crisp and center it in the black blurry edge circle on the white paper or when using a a globe front sight with ring insert you center the blurry circle in the ring with even amounts of white all the way around the edges.

are you wanting to see the target or the sight bead? you likely with age won't be able to see both crisp

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Typically you'll find a distributor at big shoots where you can try them on or if you frequent a large club that sells them. One of the most common places to order them online is from Morgan Optical. If you talk to Wayne there he'll be able to help you

If Zenni finds out I use their glasses for shooting they'd probably refuse my future business.

My definition of shooting glasses are simply regular glasses with the proper tint to make that orange clay stand out.

Maybe some legal definition requires materials and form to include eye protection. If you need that, at least go for the polycarbonate lenses. I don't.

The main thing is the right magnification and that they set high enough on your head that you can see through them.I’m not too concerned about what they’re made of

Shooting glasses are set up with the area you need to see wherever your looking in the exact spot so the spot you use normally to look forward will be higher up on the lens because of your head position when looking over the stock to shoot.

If you have bifocals and go to a straight lens it can be a challenge at first but when shooting you should always be looking down range to avoid "floaters" when your eyes adjust from far to near.

Dealing with a local optician gives you somebody that you can get mad at. Added bonus that he/she can measure the glasses while they are on your face and make adjustments.
