as a kid, I used to freeze a washcloth in the freezer, turn my box fan on me directly on high and hope I fell asleep before my cloth dried out....it was miserable. Daytime was livable but trying to sleep was the worst
I think every room in our house had fans going

Move to a more comfortable energy efficient air conditioned house with the current wife.

Find a girlfriend who has an air conditioned house and enjoy the “hot times”.

Try a new hobby - nudism. They say it is cool in hot weather, just be careful of sunburn.

May have already been mentioned, but stop blowing hot air from outside in the house. Even at night, the humidity is high and still not "cool". Keep the A/Cs running at night when they're not fighting the heat. The cooler you can start the morning, the better they'll continue to cool throughout the day. Attic fan would be a big help too, but obviously not an immediate fix.

Night: Whole house attic fan to suck cooler night air thru the house.
Day: Window fan in a south facing window, to pull air from the north side thru the house.
Curtains, or window awnings on the South side.
Central air conditioning

Go to the library and hide all day.

work out in the sun all day like the first owner did and that house will feel cold when you get home just from the shade.
Blow the walls and attic with insulation; even in 1960 in Idaho the insulation we used was minimal.

This.

I run my window AC's in my old, poorly insulated house all the time when the dew points are higher than the low sixties. I don't know how the humidity is out in Iowa but here in PA in July and August dew points in the mid-seventies are common and that's just miserable. I work outside most of the time and love coming home to a house filled with cool, dry air.

I've got one new AC. The new ones shut themselves off when they reach the preset temp. The old ones just shut off the compressor, not the fan. The new one does a test run for ten seconds every fifteen minutes to see if it needs to run again. I like it and the other two older units will be replaced by next summer.

I haven't replaced them yet because they still work good and I'm too cheap to "fix" something that ain't broke!

Eh...wot?

Our house built in 1923 can get mighty warm in the summer. 2 window units made it bearable. Added central air last fall. Wow what a difference. Even with no vents in the basement shop it is a pleasure to work in the cool. Shoulda done it years ago. Power bill is lower than the window units that ran constantly.
