How come there aren’t more #4 sized traps? I’m just wondering why someone hasn’t come out with a larger coyote/ smaller wolf or beaver sized trap to fill the gap between #3’s & #5’s?

With the trap size restrictions in most states, there isnt much room for a 4. And the places there do, I doubt the demand is there to bother with it.

The #4 Victors I have are the size of many brands' #3. I have some older #4 Victor longs I'm gonna try out this season. Other than that, I think there are several brands still producing a #4 size trap. Duke I'm sure does, although I've never tried it.

Nominal trap sizes can be deceiving. For instance, a Bridger #3 coil spring has a jaw spread of 6 1/2 inches while a Bridger #4 long spring has a jaw spread of 6 inches.

Victor has a good #4. Four coiled and offset jaws if you prefer.

I agree, have the cast jaw model. Nice trap when night-latched.

I bought a dozen #4 Dukes this summer for beaver trapping here in Pa. They meet the 6.5” max size for the state. Four coiled and relatively inexpensive trap for use on public waterways where theft is always a possibility.

I use the Victor Monty 4s they catch and hold wolves for me.
Bridger 3 s and duke 4s are almost identical in measurement I believe.
