For a time I was task with teaching fire fighters to back boats in. I couldn't believe how many couldn't/can't use mirrors. Had guys wanting to hold door open look back crap like that.. I guess I just grew up backing boat trailers and around people that did, thought everyone knew how. Even at the boat ramp most used by duck hunters in the fall. You can tell who the green horns are. Come in with big fancy truck nice boat, shallow drive motor. Look like them guys from duck commander. Then their dog runs all over the landing while they fart around loading crap in the boat. Then ya watch them fight to back in, all this in the dark of course. while dozen others wait, really entertaining. When I was first out of high school in my party days. Bunch of us would go to busy landing on Memorial Day,take a cooler of beer. Always entertaining and you can't believe how upset some folks get having drunken 18 year olds laughing.

only one way to learn how to back up a trailer. and everybody that learns is fun to watch while they learn. afterwhile you forget how hard it is when you first try to do it. kinda like a lot of stuff you have to learn by doing
if you think a guy tying up a boat ramp is irritating get on a construction site being paid by the ton. one semi at a time backs in and dumps. need a dozen loads to make it work per truck and one of the guys on the job is a rookie. seen lots get run off for that. I feel sorry for them and irritated at them all at the same time. takes awhile to get good at it. especially a short trailer on a ball hitch
when you think your good at it try a hay wagon with a tongue that turns steer tires

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.

Everyone who wants to tow should be able to back a trailer through a single lane S-turns, uphill. But that’s just my opinion. "Any of y’all ever tractor launched in surf?"
Off Deep Creek, maybe?
Jim You know it. In flat water it’s a piece of cake. When the wind comes up and the tide rips, the men are separated from the boys. Here’s what it looks like when it doesn’t go well: https://youtu.be/xV0XRZqDBWs

When I was a young feller I worked on a farm in the summers and got humbled pretty quick trying to back up wagons to the silo filler. As my uncle told me "now this is gonna be a little different than what yer used to." Zim

Every year we got brand new Coast Guard approved river boat sinkers. Government classes are no substitute for what I could teach them in half a day on the river.

I was at the ramp one morning and the guy ahead of me in the prep. area got out of his truck and he looked to be A 100 years old . I was going to ask if he may need help , but he had the straps off and was headed to the ramp before I could get out of the truck . He pulled around and backed the boat in one motion . Never turned his head . Jumped out and had the boat pushed pushed out, pulled to the loading dock, secured ,and back in his truck clearing the ramp in about one minute flat . I was impressed . Talked to him later , said he was only 93 . said he had been launching that same boat for about 50 years and had got it down pretty pat . About that hay wagon thing . The farmer I worked for in my youth would back two wheel steer wagons of hay hook in tandum up the barn bridge with out ever having to pull forward to correct. I never got the hang of backing one .
