Wow, that's a massive project. Usually cheaper to tear down and build new but very cool to save the old gal.
Yes it is a very pricey project and I'm definitely not doing it on the cheap. The front 4 rooms were in good enough shape to where the foundation, floors, walls, ceilings, roof framing are all staying. So that saves quite a bit from starting over. They had to shore up some of the first floor joists but that's about it. You could probably replace with a very cheap building but when this is done I want it to be high quality and eye popping...with the rustic nature of a farmhouse.

The kitchen I believe was originally detached old summer kitchen, but over the years was upgraded and then attached to the building....that part the foundation was ruined (termites) so had to be demolished.

I will say that my old farm house is built from white and red oak. My Grandpa helped build it in 48 and the owners had oak sawed into 2x4's, floor joists, etc. Have to drill pilot holes in order to put in a nail.

Progress seems slow at time but coming along. Hopefully the end is in sight within a few months. By end I mean I can occupy because the landscaping etc will be a work in progress for a long time to come!

I've wondered of the progress that has been made, it's looking really good. I can't wait to see it done. I really like the staircase and was curious as to how big the cellar is. Great update pass-thru.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Thanks! The cellar is a little smaller than the footprint of the middle section, and his not very high...I can't stand up down there...haven't gone down since they put in the new door. Here some pics that show it after the demo of that part of the house and early in the rebuild.

Cool space indeed. I love cellars and spring houses and such, don't know why but I have since I was a kid. That is a great little space that hopefully you can utilize somehow. Maybe food storage of some kind.

They've got the heat pump and the cold water tank hooked up down there....allowed me to have 2 units in the house instead of one big one up in the attic, so it was huge benefit.
