Ok, one more post and I'll quit for the nite... . As I get older I realize I got to get smarter or pay the price at night or the next day ( pain from overdoing it)!! Since I don't have my mules yet I made a cart to help pack out game from places you can't get any thing motorized in. I have packed out or helped pack out elk and deer where you either carried it, used a 2 wheeled game cart, or a wheel barrel. The 2 wheeled game cart was ok , but that extra wheel was a pain. Just like the wheel barrel the tires were too small around. Made it hard to get around or over stuff. But I made a cart that works great for packing game... even bring in fire wood. A single wheeled cart that is kinda a cross between a stretcher(two men to handle it), a grocery cart and a wheel barrel. Works great but needed a brake. So I mounted a piece of hardwood to drag against the motorcycle tire. Should be a big help in the mountains on an old logging road or heavily used trail!!

Looks good I still prefer young sting back hunting buddies (son and son in law) to Carry my elk out for me

Hey Law Dog. I took it to Colorado a couple years or so back. No elk but I used it to bring cut and blocked firewood to the camp site. Worked great. Then that same year I hauled out a couple whitetail bucks from creek pastures to the pick up. Beat dragging them a quarter mile or so. And yes wrangler it is best to have a couple younger "mules" to help carry out. Last year I went with a young buck who was 20 years younger than me. WE had to pack a bull and also a cow out of a steep and deep hole about a quarter mile and then we used a wheel barrow the rest of the mile or so to the truck. Down a logging road. I left the cart at home. Dumb...Dumb!! This year I am taking him again and got another one about 20 years or so below me. I should have it easy!!! No wilderness hunt this year. All public forest land.

I can't see struggling to keep a single wheel cart balanced. and it's a "Wheel Barrow".

I have the Cabela's 2 wheel version not made as well as that is and I like it sure beats carrying 1/4s out on your back.

if you cant hire somebody to pack out for you don't shoot an elk very far from where you can drive too. 3-4 miles will wear out a young man before its all carried out.

Get a mule or a horse. How far in the wilderness can get that cart and get it back out? I have seen elk die in some God forbidden places where only ropes can retrieve quarters.

Ever have to cross a few dozen downed trees when retrieving an elk. Only had to do it once. Whew! Glad it was downhill and I was draggimg the front half which came with handles.

You made a good cart, but make it a great cart by adding a second wheel so you don’t fight to balance it like pushing meat on a unicycle. Honestly, with just one wheel, I would not want to push it empty.

And if possible, add a way to connect it to a horse, mule, ATV, or truck!

I've never used one , but it's my understanding that cart is a two person cart and a second wheel would make you wanna just leave it in the woods.

I realize it won't work everywhere. But where we hunt there is usually an old logging road close by heading out to the road. May have to pack from kill site to the cart, then to a road. I have used 2 wheel carts before. They work. This is better.

Like you say, NCM, it should be good on a road. A buddy bought one that was made similar using a motorcycle wheel with motorcycle brakes. It had handlebars at both ends that slanted upward more than yours. Worked great on roads, especially level or downhill. It was murderous going across drains or obstructions. The handlebars were digging into the ground or so high up you couldn't get a good grip. Much of the trail was up or down for a few hundred feet or had rocks and fallen limbs to go over. He said never again after one trip out with an elk.

Something to watch out for-- the mesh gap in the guard around the wheels will let the load slide down and in against the tire. Unless there is some stiff material to keep hide or meat from slumping through the mesh it will work its way in there.

One area I hunted out Colorado you weren't allowed to use a cart. Only foot traffic or by horse was allowed. Don't know where your planning on hunting at.

once you get your meat to a road why wouldn't you drive to it?

A lot of closed roads in the national forest.

Ya where I used to hunt coyote 20 years ago those trails are closed, I think Clinton had something to do with it
