Drink water. But you will need to replace electrolytes, as stated above. Gatorade and other sports drink have lots of salt. Salt is good for you to rehydrate your cells. But, do it slowly. I recommend mixing half water and half sports drink together. Drink some water every twenty minutes weather you feel thirsty or not. If you feel thirsty, you are likely already a little dehydrated. Look for pale yellow urine. I think it’s pale yellow that you want. I’ll have to consult Dr. Google.

Hydrogen dioxyde. Just don't overdose with it.

Around the parts, everyone I know is hooked on the stuff in one form or another. They just can't seem to live without it anymore. Lots of folks here make it into hard rocks and mix with drinks. Should be banned! Downfall of society!

Milk is supposed to be excellent re-hydration. It has an excellent blend of carbohyrdates, proteins, sugars, salts, and vitamins/minerals. For a little extra energy boost, make it chocolate milk.
I don't think I'd want to carry milk around on an elk hunt, though.

Salt your food heavily with Pink Himalayan salt, if you are sweating profusely throughout the day I would take 1/4 tsp of Pink Himalayan salt on top of each meal/ every few hours. Here is a drink to try, I use it with good results. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNaD5fAFIaY20-24oz water 1/2 squeezed lemon 1/8-1/4 teaspoon Pink Himalayan salt Sweeten with stevia or honey Salt has received a bad rap it doesn't deserve. The issues with high sodium are with the highly processed/fried junk food that is high in sodium, not the sodium itself. Eat a clean diet with a large amount of sodium, no problem.

Wife buys us Powerade Zero. The blue one is pretty good. 0 sugar. The only problem with Gatorade or Powerade is the high sugar content.
Good luck on your hunt. Where is it? They do sell training masks that simulate high altitudes. You guys going from low level to elk country might want to look into those.

Water...good old plain water. I run three marathons and log 1,200 running miles a year sir. I have one next weekend at Nebraska State Fair and another in October I am training for. That will be my 17th! I drink a lot of water all day long but when races approach I start "hydrating" a good two days ahead of them. The old addage drink until you pee clear...that's what you aim for. Then don't stop there, keep the water drinking right up that morning of your first day of adventure. You don't need a lot of extra stuff in Gatorade and other sport drinks. Just eat well too. All the fruits and veggies you want, and some good whole grains. Use the Mayo medical clinic food pyramid, it works. In fact if you do drink one of those well marketed sports drinks, you don't even really need to drink the whole bottle either. Don't forget to drink water throughout your trip too. You need to maintain hydration as you go. During a race I stop at almost every water station. You lose a lot every three miles or so. Put it back in and keep going! Have fun! PM me if you want. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
