Garmin tri-tronics sport pro, it has been a great collar for me. What kind of pup is it? Trapline dog? Hunting Dog?

Ditto on the Sports Pro. I did a lot of research and that's the one I bought three years ago for my hunting lab. I have no regrets and feel I spend my money well.

Eh...wot?

Kevin, earlier I told you I had the sportdog 3200 houndhunter, it is actually the 3225. I don’t think you will need a 2 mile range for decoy work in your neck of the woods, I would think a system with 400-800 yds of tone and zap capabilities would be sufficient.

Been really happy with my Sport Dog Yard Trainer 350 which has an honest 300 yard range, for my lab it is more than enough range. I think I have had it for going on 3 years..........

More good dogs have been ruined by a shock collar, than bad ones fixed. You need to read the book and be very stingy with that button.
I knew a guy that when he lost sight of his hound, he'd hit the button on MAX just to hear her yelp, so he could locate her. Poor Beagle was scared to death of Rabbits.

I want to train him to come back to me with a tone. That’s what I’m looking for.

I have a Sportsdog. Can't say enough good things about their exceptional service.

True but, if an E-collar is used fairly, it can be a great training tool. Teaching your dog what you want it to do, before you break out the E-collar is the important part. If the dog knows why it is being corrected, and you use the appropriate level of stimulation, there is no reason to shy away from using it. My shorthair loves his E-collar, because he knows it is time to go train, hunt, or check traps. You are absolutely right about some folks not using them right though.
