About 4-5 years ago I asked a question on Trapperman about out of the way areas in the northern part of MN to vacation and go camping with family. Well, I received quite a few helpful hints from members and saved many of them in my private messages. We ended up following someone’s suggestions, and I don’t remember who, because they are no longer saved, but we spent some time in the Isabella/Finland area this summer. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we bought a little fixer upper' cabin near Finland so we can have the kids grow up enjoying the outdoor activities too. Anyhow- if you remember giving me details about that area about 4-5 years ago- I thank you. Maybe we’ll get to meet some fellow members on the water or trails someday.

Here is the little cabin- about 430 sq ft. Maybe someone will recognize it.

Here is the view from the cabin- we like it.

Jeff

That is a most excellent place to get a kid away from the "screens". Congratulations on your cabin, may it offer many years of enjoyment.

That isn’t far away from me.

I have nothing clever to put here.

We go just north of Finland to Crooked lake resort all the time. Love the area and have looked at a few chunks of land up there to purchase. Haven’t found the right spot yet. Hope you enjoy the cabin and the good times to come!

That's great its been years since I have been in that area but really enjoyed it. Did a lot of bear hunting and just visiting the area. I have relation in Silver Bay. Nice area and the people are friendly also.

I used to own 120 acres north of Floodwood near Meadowlands, but sold it about 20 years ago. The deer flies, horse flies, and mosquitos were horrible in the summer. When you left the cabin, they would meet you at the door! We stayed away until after the first frost or two. Otherwise, it's beautiful country.

Thank you everyone- 160, it may have been you that suggested the area if I recall.?

Nelson- we also stayed a week at Crooked lake resort this past July- it sure is a great place and friendly folks. Had a few meals at the Trestle Inn also.

And Trapper7- that sounds like the way it is at my house- this year has been worse than most, but you can’t get to close to the edge of the yard without getting swarmed!

You're probably going to make a lot of new trapper friends that just so happen to like Martin trapping, lol. Buying a recreational place for the family is the best thing IMO. Our kid and his friends(now young adults) are seeing the value it has had on there lives over other things the money could have been spent on. ENJOY - even all work it takes.
