Went to start the Skid and the battery light stayed on after starting. Checked and tightened the alternator belt and light stays on with and with out engine running. Foot controls are locked. Engine starts fine.

Don't know much about skids but I've been a professional auto tech for 12 years. Check the battery voltage with engine running, should be a little above 14 volts (assuming it's a 12 volt battery). If not, it probably needs an alternator. You could get more technical with your diagnostics if you have a wiring diagram, but an alternator is a pretty good bet. If the battery voltage is a little above 14 volts with engine running and the battery light is on, you may have a problem with the light circuit or could be the alternator. You'd need a wiring diagram to diag that.

It has a 12 volt system. I will stick a meter on it and see what it says. It is odd to me that the battery light does not go out with the switch off and key out. I am wondering if it is a short at the switch.

I am going to unhook the battery and clean to see if that does anything after checking voltage.

IF the light is on with the key off, then there may be a short to power in the light circuit somewhere. Hard to say though without a wiring diagram.

I checked the battery voltage and it said 12.38 when off and 13.89 when running. It is hard to get at the battery and I can't say the meter had the best connection. It is down around where it can not be seen from the side and you can not reach it from the top. I will see if I can locate a short in the wiring that hooks to the hydraulics shut off. Not that I know where that is. I unhooked the ground to the battery, in hopes that resetting the computer will clear it. I may never get it hooked up again due to the location.

Unhooked ground and re hooked and light came back on. I am guessing it is a short. Since you can see very little wiring, it will be impossible to find pretty much.

If the voltage running is 13.89 you should be okay. It's at least charging. Voltage is a little low, but not terrible. The light being on however, will run the battery dead in a day or so if you don't start it.

Tipped the seat up and pulled the floor out and everything looks good that I can see. No sign of mice, which surprised me. I guess I am lost as what to try. It is bad timing with harvest going. NH dealer will be very busy.
