Most of mine goes through the freezer after skinning before it is fleshed and stretched. Otherwise, ticks could be a problem on canines especially. If I am going to put canines up fresh, I bag and bug spray them before skinning.

Living in rural Ak lumber cost an arm and a leg so for the first 20 yrs i was married I never had a shed all fur was skinned and put up in the house no basement so mostly skinned on living room floor everything from weasels to wolves fur was generally strecjed in the bathroom someplace I have a pictures of most of this including a bathtub full of beaver otter and a fox on top thawing out from the sled ride home. ya there is some smells that come with it but they can be kept minimal can’t do anything with a green bellies fox other than skin as quick as humanly possible and get the carcass bagged and out the door . My wifes dad was a trapper and he never did have a shed so it helped that she was use to it . It also helps that i give her all my fur every year to sew with😁
We get out of life only as much as we really want and work hard enough to achieve

You can be the cleanest person in the world and all that but your still going to smell the leather and fatty oils of drying fur throughout the house. My drying room is half of my garage framed out room, insulated and all that but if I don’t have the attic door open so that those smells can air out I can smell it in the house, and my Wife sure can too lol, especially when I have some skulls goin in the beetle tanks, the furs not that strong to me at all but the wife hates it. I can imagine doing it underneath my house let alone in it, it’s not a stinky rotten smell just an certain oil, grease, leather smell. Y’all know

If you keep things clean in the processing room, and dry the fur in a cold room at about 10c there are no smells.
The only smell is if you nick a mink or weasel gland.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Hubby used to do his fur in the basement of our old house and it was never a problem. He bagged and sprayed for fleas and kept the room very clean.
Throughout your entire life, you will never see the same sky twice.
