Never heard of them until this year , but they are working over my pears, sweet corn, grapes, etc. I call them speckled stink bugs. They are like fruit ticks that suck juice out of everything they bite. The first one I saw was an adult on the shuck of sweet corn. All around it were little offspring.
They cause hard lumps on asian pears, spots on apples, grapes will sour after a while, sweet corn has discolored kernels with an off taste.

I read that a fruit grower sprayed for them 90 times over the season and still had 40% loss.
They are spreading all over the country. The only good news is they aren't there yet. Maybe the experts can come up with a better control.

We have them here by the thousands.
There not a real problem until fall.
Then they swarm the west end of my house and it is nearly impossible to keep them out. But I do enjoy killing them in the winter. Makes me giggle.

I don't have a photo, but if you do a search online Penn State Extension has an article and great close up photos of them. They are listed as Brown Marmorated stink bugs. They are an asian species of stink bug much more destructive to fruit than our native stink bugs.

They first showed up by about 10 years ago. I would notice a random one every now and then buzzing around the house. Then, boom...complete infestation within a couple of years. When the weather turns cold they swarm indoors by the thousands. Then, when it warms up, they swarm again leaving the house.

It's now 5-6 years ago that they seemed to peak here. Not as many the last few years. I think certain predators adapt to new food source and that helps keep them down.
