So with the talk of coons possibly being better this year, what’s your plan of attack for those cuddly little coons.

I'm guessing, "better" means a couple bucks more than last season for the 3X+, 1-2(A-B) colored coon. I will be leaving all of the coon for someone with a stronger back and weaker mind than mine.

I will do the poor market usual. I trap around a lot of feed yards, and if their numbers get to high they all get distemper and die. Usually that’s the year the market goes crazy! Probably take a hundred or so

I will trap and give some instruction like always. If you are in an area outside the triangle you may want to call a buyer first and see how the interest is. The market GFW is talking about is a trim market. Heavy NW or N central coon will be the driver. I will use my strong back and weak mind to kill a couple thousand again. wink LLL

I have a few places where the landowner wants them removed .So I will make an effort to catch them on those properties. Other than that I will be doing what Hobbie Trapper said .

Self will catch whatever coon put their hands in my DP's while I'm out on the beaver/otter line and those will have to be cherry picked. This price talk is the normal preseason mumbo jumbo IMO. I'm gonna do my usual thing the cards will fall as they may.

Adding cages to my line this year have not set cages for several years so expecting a few coons and a bunch of skunks barring any disease that may of came through that I missed. Going along that route for yotes anyways so the cost of running cages is minimal just the time to rebait, set and deal with the catch but that is where the payoff is.

This all depends on my buyer I sent him a email and he said 'No clue" yet but I have everything ready so just waiting on the word from him he writes the checks.

I'd say check with you local buyer and see what he plans on buying and if your coons are what the market is looking for or not, if he says go for it then ignore the naysayers and do what you think is right. With a sharp knife and a skinning machine a few extra coon are not a big deal really just gas extra money.

unless something changes, I will catch a few, keep only the largest ones with nice fur. Small and yellow, I will let them go.
To me raccoons are only worth money once they get into somebody's backyard for ADC.

Are there any projections that actually say semi heavies will be worth much of anything? Or is this just a select market for the super coon?

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I like coon trapping myself. I could list a variety of reasons why I'm gonna trap them this season, but mostly it just comes down to, I like it. I'll focus on the larger prime boars, as far as what I keep. But that goes for all fur, we, as trappers, regardless of the market or species, have to present the best fur possible to keep any market. And the better the product, and the more consistent the product, the better chance for an improving market. My opinion of course.

I trap for fun. I skin 'em for the money!

I was planning to find more ground for coon and yotes this year but have decided to concentrate more on the land I have and trap that harder and over more of the ground then I have the last few years. I am still learning more about how to trap more effectively out of a 4-wheeler. It is not as simple as it seemed it should be if one wants to have what one needs over the section you plan to run.

Pretty sure there is an abundance of coon in all sizes, colors and grades, with the exception of the best colored 3X+ from the golden triangle. If you have to ask where the golden triangle is, you, probably, ain't in it.

The ones that wiped out my sweet corn while I was away on business are dead meat when they prime up.

Meat is meat. Two kids and a wife now, and it beats buying pot roast.
