That's how I started . . . I didn't trust anyone because once the material is ground up, who knows what's in it? But now that I've ground more than I care to discuss, and I've seen how/why it works, I know what the good stuff is, and what isn't. Here's a hint, if it has leaves and limbs and twigs in it, you're wasting your time.

Good info Thanks that's why the pods seemed like the best route not knowing if you did the grinding so both routes seem safe then.

Looked close at the Cloud 9 stuff that I bought on Amazon and it has some lighter bigger stuff mixed in with the darker powder am guess that might be stems/leaves maybe?

Yup, no doubt. Or bearing fruit.

Go read Dr. Bol's study. He tested the various parts of the SV plant to determine where those important chemicals were concentrated. Answer: The gall fruit. Not the leaves or twigs or bearing fruit, but the galls. They are hard as a rock and they look like gravel when you grind them course. But the fine ground powder is dark brown, kind of like nutmeg and it has a bitter kind of a smell that you remember once you've smelled it.

Read the reviews on a lot of those products. You'll see every once in a while one will pop up saying their cat didn't respond to the silver vine, but when the seller sent a replacement product, ole Fiffy lit up like a Christmas tree. That's because something probably got mixed in with their product, and when they replaced it with the real gall fruit, it provided the chemical reaction that triggers the response we are all looking for.

I used an electric coffee grinder, and it did a great job.

That little coffee grinder did well on a pound, but I don't think I'd care to do a hundred pounds with it. I don't care for those Italian sounding coffees. I prefer a good Columbian dark roasted. I may try grinding coffee beans after the silver vine to see if the coffee will make me want to rub against my cup.

Well, if you start slobbering, meowing and rolling on the floor, let me know and we'll give Starbucks a run for their money.

I tried to order some from amazon. They just called me and told me it’s prohibited in Canada....... guess I won’t be trying it on the northern kitties.

You might be on to something there! laugh

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

Amazon stuff looks to be junk and a 1X use amount, get the real stuff from a place you trust!

I've been trying to educate myself on it and learned not to use the usual mediums I would to tincture other things and that I couldn't use it in my cat lure with the glycerine binder and antifreeze. From what I've learned, I'm better off using it mixed with a small amount of olive oil, or petroleum jelly. I know a lot of people do, but I've never really cared for pet jelly, so I thought olive oil would be the way to go. Researching olive oils led me to the fact that they can freeze at around 35*, or just a little lower. In 90% of my trapping, the nighttime temps are from a little, to way below that, so I guess I'm back to pet jelly. I thought about using olive oil as a replacement for the glycerine in my cat gland lure at one point, but obviously that's out, now. Unless somebody has another idea that they'd be willing to share, I guess I'm going to be experimenting with it as a rub lure in pet jelly and sprinkling a little powder at other sets. Law dog had mentioned using it in bags at one point and I like that idea too, thanks again LD. I'm looking forward to experimenting with some castor and aged rat glands in combination with SV as a rub lure and I have some other things in mind to try too, but my original ideas are pretty much off the table, at least for the time being.

My old grinder was on it's last leg "a 80s food processor" tried the second grind but the head was so hot it cooked some of the dust around the blade into "bakelite" locked it up on the second go a round. LOL

No biggie I just need to get another transfer arm part a dime a dozen on Ebay or Amazon has them maybe as I don't do Ebay any more. Don't see it eating grinders mine was junk and I knew it was going to pop it was repined once already guessing that shear pin forgot to shear. Oh well

Seen 3 of the wife's cats hanging around the trap shed so I tossed the empty ice cream bucket in their direction and they started to rub their faces on the bucket with just a little dust in it, very encouraging!
