I haven't noticed a difference, I usually hate goose meat but if you grind it into burger and use it in things like lasagna or goulash it's better than deer burger in my opinion

Trapping is easy you say? You try getting your target animal to step in a 3 inch area of its whole territory.

I'm not, but I consider this to be my own personal New Year's. Many of my favorite things start now or very soon. And the hot summer work is widing down. Let the rewards begin.

I will be out after bear and grouse this afternoon. Dove opens the first but not many around here, goose doesn't open until mid October.

You shoot the geese or use aspirin on them? I have never eaten geese I killed with aspirin but I guess if I did I would not have a headache or heart attack!!!

Deep bush fishing in Canada in the morning then home next week for bears. As for honkers I have never enjoyed the taste, donate all to the food bank. Snow goose breasts on a grill or griddle done rare to medium rare are very good.

Traprjohn come on out we will find something to do. Turkey, lion and wolf are also open. I should be out there now but I procrastinated and I.am waiting on a roofer. My fault,
I have two more weeks then back to work after back surgery so I need to make the most of it.

I planned on it, but I have a sick beagle here that needs 24 hour a day attention for a while. He's my best bud, so It's a small price to pay. Good luck everybody, I hope you all have a blast, whatever you're hunting.

My son and his crew are going for the geese. This is a picture of opening day last year. Pretty typical for these guys.

I however am taking my fathers .22 pump gun out for squirrels. They are a lot easier to lug out of the woods and taste a whole lot better.

I will be sitting within arms of reach the boy on his first dove hunt. He has been practicing on clays with his little 410. Not sure if he is going to hit any of those fast movers but he is excited to try. So we shall see.

September 1st means mourning doves and sharptail grouse and prairie chickens, here. Thinking back it was such an extremely highly-anticipated day that I would dream about 4 weeks or months! Still looking forward to it taking the kids this time.

I am doing the same thing. Its my sons first year hunting and so far he has only shot squirrels. And no clays either, so I just picked up another case of shells. He is excited even though he has to get up at 4:30 because we have a little bit of a drive.

I have driven out a tank and a half of gas since this thread started. I have not been able to pin and geese down to a pattern. Looks like it is a football game and doves for us this weekend.

Just went and bought a couple boxes of dove loads for the boy and myself... Don't know how much luck we'll have but we are looking forward to going.

I figured it was close MN hunters all over. LOL

They are migrating west/south/north. I wish them a good hunt but hope for better luck with them this year. Had to redirect 3 of them yesterday towards evening but they seem to be very cooperative.

We have been in the corn field since 4 this morning set up 4 dozen decoys and 2 lay out blinds. Then about 5.15 3 trucks pull up and act like they own the place . My son and I walked up to them and told them they are more than welcome to join us but they wanted to be jerks instead. They only have 3 layout blinds and 7 people not for sure how that's going to work .But we will see cause they are set up a 100 yards from us.

Tommie that sucks

Been down that road a time or two.

We've seen one goose this morning and that's I for us, but not dealing with jerks here

I guess next time they will join in and not be jerks. The look on their faces was priceless. My 15 year old is on cloud 9 right now he is a die hard goose hunter .He has been getting his mother to take him up there ever morning before school to watch this feild.

Thats awesome, congrats on the birds. I'm glad to hear that your son is all fired up about it, I love to see kids into this stuff. Thanks for the pic.

Saw plenty of doves, but most stayed far enough away that we didn't get any good chances to shoot.

Switched gears from mourning doves to rock doves this afternoon. Grandpa stayed home so it was just the boy and myself. He hit his first bird on his second shot and ended with 3 himself and a total of ten for the both of us. Good eating tomorrow morning and a great day I have been looking forward to since March 2010 when the wife told me we were pregnant.

My son had been watching this field all week in the morning before school his mother would take him up there and he knew their every move and where they was landing. My wife went and looked a few days for us later in the morning to see what time they were flying back out.She called me on Thursday and said another guy was there watching and ask if I wanted her to stop and talk to him and let him know we were going to be in there this weekend
.Yesterday when they went by he was there again and she ask our 15 year old if he wanted to stop and talk to him and he said no the early bird gets the worm. So last night around 8.00 we went up there and set up our lay out blinds to save time in the morning. At 4 this morning we pulled in and unloaded 4 dozen decoys and set up 8 family groups around us and a big hole in the middle. With everything set up now we were in our blinds and then here came the headlights around 5 15 so I told him to hit the headlamp to let them know we were already there. After 15 minutes of the standoff we decided to go talk to them and that's when he hit the fan with 7 of them and 2 of us with one being 15 I thought it would be best to be nice and offer them to hunt with us. That's when he started the B.S so I told my son let's go get in the blinds and get ready. So he followed us out and told us where they was going , I told him it didn't matter to me we wasn't moving and we didn't. Finally they got settled in about 6 then about 15 minutes later they hollered here they come. My son got on the call hard and pulled them in to us we drop 5 out of the first group and finished our limit on the next 2 groups.
