When Law enforcement in my area arrests an offender they do not keep families together by also arresting the children.

Growing up, we had a party line with 4 or5 neighbors on the same line. You soon learned to not say anything over the phone you didn't want repeated, lol. I guess these early lessons make todays worries less to me.

I wish we had the money some people think we have to blow on toys! LOL When I started they handed me a old S/W with Black Talon ammo and a H&R shotgun that might make a poor to fair club, I tossed that junk in the closet and bought my own gear.

You must be thinking about the Fire Dept they have the shinny stuff and they need it for what they do.

Nope, local law enforcement in my area doesn't collect and store private cell phone information. But I know who does....

At&T
Verizon
Sprint
T-Mobile
U.S. Cellular

Our local law enforcement also doesn't collect, store and sell my private online information to the highest bidder. But I know who does. I'd provide a list but it's too dam long and we all know who they are anyway. We have a well established "Ministry of Information" already in our midst, but we're too busy chasing the big-G red herring to notice or care.

I got a letter just yesterday from a car dealer I never bought anything from in my life that said they were interested in my 2010 Ford F250 as they had people interested in it! Sold that truck years ago has not been in my name for many years how did they get that info I wonder?

Log into your Social Security account and see what security info questions they ask you that you never gave them to begin with and see how scary that is~ shocked

Perhaps there may be a business opportunity for a cell phone carrier who believes people should be safe in thier person, papers and effects. Warrant or no, the information too scrambled to read but for the sender and receiver.
It stands to reason this exists already and is used by successful criminal enterprises to do business, leaving the low level idiots and the law abiding to be snooped on by a stingray machine.
All levels of government push their Constitutional limits past what is acceptable, are sued by citizens and the defense is payed by taxpayers. Recently I read where these blow machines drunks have to put on their cars have GPS transponders that the state can look up the coordinates of the vehicle at any time. Offenders where not aware and did not authorize this. There is now a class action lawsuit in Minnesota (taxpayers footing the bill for the defense, of course). It wasn't good enough to just ensure the driver wasn't drunk, they needed to push the envelope a bit farther. Creeps.

my local department has enough issue storing all the things they are required by ever changing open records laws , the state keeps mandating more and longer but offers no assistance in.

while I agree that records should be open , the requests get ridiculous and have an staff spending a bunch of time each week processing the requests.

if the state wants it collected everything should get sent tot eh state for archival and make a state open records department as a part of DOJ and quit killing every small towns department with the paperwork and let them spend the dollars on patrol.

it would make a whole lot more sense to pay a one time dollar per record number and hand that info off to the state and let them warehouse the info in a way were they can have people who specialize in records management with high speed printers that could print a label cover sheet with postage and it could go in a a envelope or box to ship and not have every small department have to put officer time at it printing hundreds of pages at a time on a small office printer.

Wife just got a cell phone (smart phone) I phone program, she has been bombarded with out of State calls since day 1 from a couple to several a day. My guess is the phone is cheap and the money they make comes from selling her number to whoever will pay the price for it!

I couldnt care less.I don't own any of those silly phone computer thingys that anyone can hack.
You are aware of the fact that anyone can listen in to phone calls so basically you are accepting the consequences of owning them. Implied consent.

The same is true of smoke signals, Boco.

Is there a list of agencies that have the device? I read the article but only saw a couple departments listed. This stuff really bothers me. I know that the NSA monitors calls, but for some reason the thought of the county sheriffs and state police being able to listen to my calls and read my texts at will, makes my blood boil. I can’t explain why. Then I hear it all the time “what are you worried about? Do you have something to hide?” Or “I have nothing to hide so I don’t care.” When I hear that stuff being said I can’t help but wonder where we went wrong. I hate losing any bit of freedom. It’s bad enough that my license plate is scanned numerous times a day and my location is cataloged for no reason at all. C’mon people need to wake up.

Hate to break it to you, but digital privacy is a myth, at least for the Winstons of the World. Fact.

I grew up in a small town .

didn't have a party line but , it was the old lady spy network . I learned early if you don't want to be seen doing something , don't do it.

If I could talk about some of the stuff I have seen and know about, it would really make you cringe. Like I said above the only times these specific tools are utilized are around major events in which specific intel has been established to suspect terrorist activity both foreign and domestic.

The cell phone companies listed above require a search warrant now to obtain any info in regards to a criminal case, then if you have a device, computer from a child porn offender, cell phones from persons arrested for serious felony crimes you have to obtain another warrant to access that device. I am glad we have to get search warrants. My angle on this specific area is that we should be following the intent of the law and the constitution. Our right to privacy outweighs the need for open free range in getting access to the above information. Get the search warrant and you better not lie on the application for the warrant.

I know that not all Officers nor agencies will play by the rule of law and constitution but I can only control my actions and the actions of those who are under my command. We will do the right thing for the right reason every time. I have no tolerance for laziness or LE that try to subvert the system in place.

I could rant on this for days or weeks. If it isn't Ethical, Legal and Moral. you do not do whatever you are contemplating if it violates any one of those principals.
