So a sailboater called and told me that he has to drink warm beer in these uncertain times because his on board built in fridge has quit. After giving the thing a good dose of looking at I found that the compressor shell was corroded right through and had dumped refrigerant and oil all over the electronically to boot.



Because I deal a fair bit with not so well off rag merchants I rarely throw stuff away and as it happened I had a " field tested" 12 volt compressor and some pixie wrangling board that I could convince to work with that compressor. A couple of copper pipes brazed on and off to the races.





I put the whole thing back in the boat, filled it with the penguin friendly RS44b instead of the R22 it used to have in it. And the sailor is back on cold beer.

Yea I don't work on Sundays lol But this was an emergency

Good job being resourceful. Not enough things are repaired these days.

One of those remote units is over 2000 bucks new without refrigerant or installation costs and this compressor should last him a few years. I am not a hoarder but seldom throw stuff like that away as it will come in handy for a future fix at some point. Got a TXT this morning that the fridge is working like new.
