I was talking to an experienced trapper today and that’s what he uses to freeze proof his traps. Are there others who have and what are your thoughts?

I've used vermiculite which is basically the same.Don't confuse freeze proof covering with bedding material. Two different things. It works but is super light and doesn't aid much in actual bedding.

First time your dirt cover gets scratched or blown a bit your perlite will be gone if someone sneezes within 50 miles.

I've never heard of it. Maybe it could be mixed with dry dirt to keep it from blowing around.
