Searching the list of things that china is imposing a tariff on and I don't see fur anywhere on the list.
list of items w/ imposed tariff and items to be considered
There is something for everyone to chew on, when you are told that the tariffs are depressing fur prices.

China already has a tariff and a VAT tax on raw fur imports. It is not new.

There is a 20% added tariff being proposed on raw skins. It is something that won’t help the fur industry that’s for sure.

where is the info on the added 20%, it is not on the list that I could find. Yes I know there are existing tariffs, not what I am asking.

As of Sept 24th there will be a 10% tariff on fur garments exported from China into the US market, if not resolved by Jan. 1 it will go to 25%
China is talking about a 20% tariff on raw ranch minks skins going into China from the US.

So all the American fur at Canadian auctions will have to be separated so Canadian fur is not affected by the raw fur tarrif on US skins?

If he does will Trudeau have to raise taxes to keep himself supplied with high-quality eyebrows?

Add to the tariffs the very strong dollar and our products become very expensive in other markets.

Dirt, my understanding the new 20% tariff is going on wild fur as well.

That is not what I read above. BTW how do you figure double export is gonna be enforced? Export from U.S. to Canada then export to China from Canada.

All I am going by is what some of the larger country buyers in MN have been telling me. Also Mike Wilhite from trapper and predator caller said the same at the Wyoming convention. Mike is pretty up on the fur market.

As far as the double export goes my only answer to that is how the heck do I know. Maybe it will be a loophole or maybe the canadian auctions will have to separate the two.

China knows about the Canadian loophole, that is how they were dumping steel into the USA,thru Canada to overcome tariffs. They will likely just slap the same tariff on Canada.

I have faith. I'll roughly quote our local buyer second hand. "There ain't no industry more corrupt than the fur industry" The Chinese crooks and the auction crooks will figure something out. smile

I heard the same that is all raw fur skins. Maybe selling through the Canadian auctions will save us though I doubt it. I know the fur commission was working on this in Washington and some ranchers and fur retailers were sending letters.
