My wife and I are looking at taking a short vacation in October or early November, probably a Friday through Monday. I figured the tman crew would have some pretty good ideas on where to go. We both love anything outdoors, great food, and scenery. She is a horticulturalist so an area with some ornamental plants, flower gardens, beautiful scenery, etc. would be preferred. We're located in central KY and would probably drive up to 6 or 8 hours. Flying is an option too if the destination is farther than that. We're currently thinking of going far Northeast like Maine or a beach in Georgia, but would like to hear your ideas.

You might like to go to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Lots of purty stuff there.

October- Albuquerque has the international hot air balloon fiesta which hosts hundreds of balloons in various shapes and styles. Weather can be all over the place. Mountains 10 minutes away from the launch area. There's a tram at the base of the mountains 6300' goes to the Crest which sits at over 10000'
We have a very beautiful Botanic garden about 15 minutes away from the launch area. NM scenery is beautiful and drastically changes

We are heading up to Gatlinburg for 3 days and then to Asheville for 3 more days in October. Hopefully the fall colors will be starting to change.

Blue Ridge Parkway in western NC. Stay in Asheville and tour the Biltmore House, Americas largest private home built by George Vanderbelt. Lots of restaurants. Biltore has an awesome botanical garden too.

A little farther than you mentioned for drive time though.

Jekyll Island

Catch a flight down to Miami and do a quick theee or four day cruise. I recommend Norwegian Cruise Lines.

Look at moab Utah. Arches and canyon lands are near there, and they're okay, but full of tourists. For a more off-the-trail adventure, the la sal mountains are just south, and you can hike in there, it's beautiful you can drive up to the mountains. Mt. Peale and Mt. Tuk are easily accessible, and have short-ish (6-7 mile) hikes, and will get you almost 13,000 ft.

Utah rocks. I love Moab, Utah.

Longwood gardens in chester county penns. Duponts started it. your wife would like that and xmas display pretty nice. And you see some of the best red fox area in the usa
