Gents, I am in need of a better bag for storing waxed dirt when hiking into set locations. I use a Weiser beaver bag and usually bring up to 2 gallons on waxed dirt into my set locations. My current setup doesn't close down properly, constantly leaking some dirt unintentionally. I believe Chad Esche makes some bags if anyone has his number please? What do you guys have for a setup that may fit my needs? Thank you

I always use army surplus sand bags to carry my dirt. I’ve seen the beaver and coyote bags, but I didn’t even know John made a dirt bag. Thanks, you just cost me $40. I had to order myself one. I like to throw my dirt bag in the front of the truck if it’s raining. This should save some dust in my truck, or maybe even solve the problem of my peat getting wet entirely.

John makes one with a open top with a strap to I believe a tad smaller about 2 gallons

I use 5 gallon pails with screw top and leave it in the truck. I carry it to the set in a plastic coffee can with a top on it.

I've been using gallon plastic jugs instead of a bag. I can pre fill 4 of them, which fits in a milk crate in the back of the truck so they don't tip over. I've also made hooks out of #9 wire and attached to the handles of the jugs. Then the hook goes on my spade handle, suspending the jugs so I can carry them.

Yo Cedar - you after cats or dogs?

For cats I carry a 5 gallon bucket of WD in the truck, then scoop the needed amount into an old sleeping bag stuff sack, give it a twist to shut it and drop it into my backpack with traps and gear, then hike to the set locations. Works great and is quick but, eh-hem....dirty, like you said. Lots of spillage. Been using that set up for 5+ years and never found anything that beats it for speed.

For K-9 (wolf in my case) I use the MT trappers dirt bag and love it. Keeps everything clean, I can get about 2 sets worth of WD and 2 750 sized traps in the bag. You'll get a shoulder burn carrying it too far as it's kinda hard to go hands-free with it, but it's better than a bucket or ziplocs. I keep the dirt bag in a clean Rubbermaid tote with traps and other gear in the tuck and just resupply as needed.

For simplicity's sake you might just check out some river dry bags. NRS has some that are cheap or check on Amazon. You can get a plenty big enough bag for <$30ish with shoulder straps.
