Drove the truck camper and boat up on the Gunflint Trail in Northern Minnesota about a month ago. Camped on Gunflint Lake, which the Canadian Border divides this lake. First time up there, beautiful country.

So, I stopped by the resort lodge to mooch a cup of coffee and I met a local, retired fishing guide, who lives just across the road and stops down for coffee with his wife most every morning. Well, I happened to start a conversation with him and ended up settled into a table, talking with him for over an hour.

He grew up in that neighborhood, moved south to Cloquet, worked in the paper industry there, but frequented the Trail's End Area all of the time. When he retired, he built a house right across the road from the resort & campground I was staying at.

Ok.....he was telling me that many people come up to this area on vacation from the Twin Cities Area, and most are not savvy to the outdoors or outdoor ways. He mentioned they come up with some very stupid questions, but these folks don't have a clue. He shared what he refers to as "the most stupid question" he has ever had asked of him.

The winning stupid question is " When do deer turn into Moose? "

The new word that he has coined is "cidiots". Idiots from the city laugh

A great cup of coffee, or two or three that morning..

TraderVic, hate to tell ya, but you're the cidiot in this scenario, that's a common word that has been around for years. The fact that this fella convinced you that he coined the word is proof positive...

Old word, maybe anicient, but not quite archaic . It's just about as old as the "sheeple", (them folks that drink the koolaid).

I guess I've been in a cave somewhere. Maybe heard it before, but if so, I must have forgotten it.
No, the fellow up there did not necessarily coin the word, I guess I mis-spoke.

Yeah, well, anyway....

I appreciate your sharing Vic, even though you are not as worldly as those who have used it since Queen Victoria was still a virgin. I liked the deer into moose as it made me smile and I needed that today.
In my part of the world, we were more nominative in our vocabulary in using words which were in common usage. For example, someone from the Twin Cities would be Twin Cities nominative. Someone from Sioux Falls would be Sioux Falls nominative. The nominative was usually something descriptive as rural people detested urban people.
I remember in South Dakota, if it was Minnesota, or a license plate with a 1, 2, 3 or 5 on it from the larger plantations, those people never got on to hunt or trap.

I hope that the local is telling the urban dwellers all kinds of pertinent information, like deer turn into moose after their 3rd antler shed, unless a snow snake bites them, then it is usually up to two years later.

And I thought this represented 612 vers?,...(minneapolis)
Common vernacular. You are correct in your assumption Vic!
Most (up north) would attribute that affirmation as an accurate display!

Never use the word. Paying taxes in both locales teaches one a bit better.

Did you ever hear how he answered that one? I would think a good answer would be: " After you have had one too many."

That is a good one. I can vouch for what your friend has witnessed from MN outdoorsmen. LOL I'm not going to say any more. LOL
