I saw that. He did say "after tanning".

Still seems like a great price.

If you watched the rest of the show, you know how he gets so much more than just the value of the fur out of his pelts.

He is NOT selling stretched and dried skins. He is selling finished products. It is called "value added".

He brain tans all his hides and that's alot of work. I can remember about 15 years ago at Friendship , Indiana at the National Muzzloading fall shoot brain tan deer hides was getting $125 then. I just saw a add in Muzzloader for vegitable tan deer hides at $90. There is alot of work in brain tanning or any tanning , especially at Tom's age he's 75.

Once he tans the pelt, he will make it into a hat or half of a pair of mittens. Something functional. And when he sells it, just having his name on it as the maker will add value.

I find it difficult to believe they have marten in the Ozarks.

Jason Hawk is talking about things that can prey on his chickens - skunks, possums and marten. Hum....

Moyles charges $17.00 to tan 1 mink. Price drops if you send more than one at a time. $8.00 each if you send 100 or more.

Tom on Mountain Man does all his own tanning. He just has his times and supplies.

I saw a marten last weekend in the ozarks. I don't think it was much of threat to chickens in its tanned state though. I also saw a cross fox and a wolf. You just never know what will show up at a trappers meet.

They might exaggerate a touch...but only if they're not adding a dollar amount to his time. His end products sell for Premium.

I wonder how many people get into trapping because of these "reality" shows, thinking $100 mink and so on will be waiting for them at the end of their chains. Gives new meaning to "yanking your chain."

Yep Some guys I know that watch that show are sure I'm making thousand and thousands of. $$$ on my trap line

Even had people argue that I "have to be getting $100 per beaver pelt"

Kinda like watching a "nature program" and them narrating about animals we know abou and being all wrong, makes me have no confidence in what the say when I watch a program about animals in another part of the world

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

Play a clip when selling someone a fur,and collect the big money after you "prove" to them what it is worth.

I wonder how much the TV net work Is paying him?
While I like the show I don't believe he's catching and tanning and making enough articles to make a living.
