I was given some material from an older trapper mentioning matrix lures, I haven’t found many manufacturers advertising them. What are they? Has anyone used them? Are they worthwhile?

Matrix lures were advertised to contain in-heat urine.

Problem is that it has been pretty well established that you can't keep what makes in-heat urines especially attractive(the pheromones) in the bottle as they are too volatile and doesnt last long.

I've also heard the term matrix applied when the lure appeals to multiple attractions such as Territorial, food and curiosity all in one lure.

Sniper, I’ve heard those same claims.

If that’s the case, why do some brands of doe in heat urine work so well?

I have a supply of doe in estrous that is several years old, and it still works like a charm.

Bob Jameson makes a matrix lure.

If he puts a lure in his product line you can bet it works.

There's a synthetic doe-in-heat pheromone. Bob even sells it.

Usually those are called "call lures" in the true Bill Nelson use of the word.

As for Jameson, I do use that lure. It's quite clear what the expected response is.

I'm not saying the stuff works. Just saying what the animals are finding in the lure isn't what you think.

I agree Snipe, and I have some of Bob’s Matrix as well.

Whatever the attraction truly is, I think that most trappers are more concerned with getting good results, as opposed to why certain ingredients work.

If estrogen could be held in an attractor we'd all be making scrapes, in heat urine is hole different deal. Perfumers have tried for a long , long time. To volitale, won't hold in fomulation.

Matrix lures are gland lures formulated to attract during the breeding period. There are other ingredients besides estrogen to do this, heat cycle urine is just one. Loveage is another passion ingredient. Etc, etc, grin

Common sense catches alot of fur..

matrixs lures are a attempt to stimulate the breeding response! In heat pheromones are similar to dust in a wind storm. Loveage has a similar chemical make up! Its added in a attempt to fool the noses of desperate critters! And does to some extent. rotted blood of your prey spieces and fish oil are very similar as well. And I do know they work, majority of the time
