I put out a mineral block for the deer.

Camera shows a bunch of Raccoons licking the block, not 1 deer !!

Just a weekend trapper...

We found that deer stomp them into chunks and carry them off, so went to loose mineral/salt.

When did you put it out. My "licks" go out in the spring...and stay in the same spot. They get much more action during the summer months and actually slow down in the fall. Fawns hit them more than other deer it seems...and yes, turkey, squirrel and the rest of the critters. Had a squirrel vs turkey fight one day over a lick

It takes awhile for deer to find and establish them. If you just put them out, your a bit too late, IMO.

As John says, best to get the mineral in a bag and mix it in with the soil. But blocks do work as rain leaches it into the soil....especially when your lick depresses in a low spot over time.

put a salt block and a mineral block side by side this spring and found most prefer the salt block.

The dang bears eat mine all the time. My licks have been in the same place for many years and as others have said, spring is the best time to put them out.

I have nothing clever to put here.
