My Dad and I are planning on heading out to Southern Indiana this year to do some camping and archery hunting on public land. We have a few places in mind. I was wondering if any of you on here may have any pointers as to which areas may be better than others, or maybe which areas to avoid due to pressure and what not. Any and all advice is appreciated. PM me if youd like. Thanks

A ton of public ground in Perry County and I doubt it gets bowhunted very hard. Check Celina and Indian Lake and Mogan Ridge.

There's the Clark State Forest in Clark County , and I think the Knob Stone Trail. That runs through 5 or more counties. I don't live to far from the forestry.

I would second Perry County and Hoosier National Forest. Huge blocks of land if you want to get away from the roads and some pretty nice deer used to come out of there. Lots of ag fields near the forest too.

Thanks for the input guys. We had considered HNF, but its so big we didnt know where to start! Over Labor Day weekend we drove over and checked out Muscatatuck NWR, Selmier SF, Crosley FWA, Atterbury FWA, Yellowwood SF, Jackson-Washington SF, and Sugar Ridge FWA. Unfortunately we did not get to scout them like we would like to, but they all seemed pretty crowded at the time. I'm sure this was due mostly in part to it being Labor Day weekend. We tried to check out Clark SF but our map was sub par and GPS took us to the middle of nowhere and I didnt see any signs indicating public land.

Check out Goosepond and Greene Sullivan state forest. Cabins at forest or camping. Plenty of deer.
Hillenbrand FWA close by also...

Might take a look at Splitter Ridge in Switzerland / Jefferson county. I have never hunted there but drive around some of it to get to property I trap. I never see more than a couple trucks there during Archery season.

I like the looks of the cabins at Greene-Sullivan. May have to check it out. We're gonna try to move around and hunt a few places. I wanted to swing by Splinter Ridge while we were out there but just didnt have time. I've heard there are some bruisers in Switzerland County.
