I have to give a shout out to my beloved Milwaukee Brewers. 1 game to go and they are tied with the best record in the National League. UNREAL. I think it's good for sports when the little guy succeeds. The Brewers are about the smallest market in the league, have a payroll in the bottom ~5, ~50% of the Cubs payroll, & haven't been to the World Series in 35 years. Seeing Mr Baseball Bob Ueker celebrate in the locker room after clinching at least a Wild Card spot was unreal. 45K screaming fans tonight @ Miller Park tonight chanting MVP when Yelich hit his 2nd HR of the day...priceless. Brewer fans are great, and deserve this. Big day Sunday: The Brewers will take prescence over GB, & have a chance to overtake Chicago.

I'm with you, AJE! This second half of the season has been a joy to watch. When they first brought on Yelich and Cain I did not know anything about them. What a great move the Brewers made, especially Yelich, of course. What I really like is that they are both plain, nice guys too. All I can say is...

GO, BREWERS, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+Been faithfully watching them all season. If they would not have had that 10 game meltdown just prior to the All Star game they would be a few games up. With the September roster expansion they can now move their pitching staff around a lot and that will be helpful against some of the better hitting teams.
Lot of young prospects in the pitching department to go with some solid bats. It will be interesting to see how things sort out through the off season and spring training.

That was a he** of a game to be at!! The energy was like no other game I've personally ever been to. I may scoop up some tickets tonight nd make the Chicago drive in the am.....we shall see how I feel at 730 when they go on sale.

I bet that was a rush being in that stadium today. It was electric just watching on TV which is a really passive venture compared to being in the midst of 45K fans.

It sure was. The only thing that could have possibly made it better would have been if the cardinals had the same kind of game we did. The Go Cardinals chants were pretty prevalent lol. Not going to the game tomorrow though....

One game at a time is the only way to go. Brewers will be in games if they can get a few runs early. Our bullpen is pretty solid right now. The magic is knowing how to put together the starting lineup and knowing who is ready to go.

Had to listen to it today at work, with my ear down close to the radio. But when they won I let out a good loud "The Brewers took it!!!" Fun game to listen to.

Life long Cubs fan here! But, have to tip a cap to the Brew Crew - Probably the best hitting & pitching in the MLB

Another thing about the Brewers is they have the coolest owner in the league.

I made it on the 'Text the Booth' by the way. If you heard the question about tailgaiting and parking, that was me. I've never been to Wrigley, but would like to make the trip some day.

The atmosphere was crazy. I've never seen so many people at work with radios going in their office.

Who's watching the NLCS? In 3 innings, LA's Catcher has 2 errors and also 2 passed balls!

I think they should have Hank Azaria (Brockmire) calling the game. I hate Joe Buck.

The Brewers have a strange strategy of changing pitchers so often, but I can't doubt Craig Counsell...after all, they had the best record in the NL (& have won 12 straight).

Hader is fun to watch. Never in more than an inning or two, but he can make them fan the air.

Counsell has relied on the bullpen all season. But I too think that he jumped the gun a little early. Starter should have thrown 1 more. Then Jeffress, Kenebl, Hader.

But a W is a W. That’s why they make the big bucks and we continue to trap $3 coon. lol

I wish there was a George Webb around here, lol.

The Brewers will sure have to be on their A game today as I don't foresee the Dodgers committing that many errors again.

Takes 3 coon to buy a Miller Park beer. Pitching Hader 3 innings could come back to bite the Brewers.

Having him lead off that one inning reminded me of Maddon move. crazy

Good game so far. This Brewers team is tough. They do a lot of things well, and have way more depth than any Brewer team I've ever seen.

Good game, even though the Brewers lost.

Brewers "good bullpen" failed them Saturday or this would be 3-0 not 2-1.

Those Dodger batters looked shocked. Seemed almost like they had a temper problem tonight. Maybe they were expecting this to be a cakewalk.

See MLB team salaries,
Brewers defy the odds and are 4th from last in team salaries. All other playoff teams are much higher in team salary.
Money has a way of talking where ever it goes.

Jeffress is my favorite player, but he needs to figure it out a bit more before he plays again imo. Its too risky of a bet for playoff baseball.

Could not agree more. In the playoffs he just isn't the same. Darn near gave the game away again.

I hope to see JJ in the game tonight and tomorrow. It means the crew is winning and likely to win that game. His season and stuff tells me there will be less rocky times ahead.

Brewers are made up of folks that had to pick themselves up off the canvas--many of them this year. JJ is just the most recent one to do it!

The reason I like watching the Brewers is, as a team, they sure do have fun! Their antics and enthusiasm in the dugout and when somebody gets a hit or scores, is certainly contagious.

That was funny seeing Rich Hill throw a tantrum in the dugout after giving up the RBI to Santana. He hit a bin that sent candy flying all over. The Dodgers seem like cry-babies.

This has to be the longest worst baseball game I've ever watched. The ump is so god awful at calling balls and strikes, he makes every pitcher look like they are un-hitable. PLUS I have to watch the whole game on mute so I don't have to hear Joe Buck. mad

Glad that's over. 13 innings and 3 combined total runs, terrible. Series tied 2-2.

Now watch the next game they'll score 10 runs apiece! lol

I'm not even sure why I'm watching these games, I just like baseball I guess. I like rooting for what I consider the underdogs too so I'm hoping the Astros beat the Dodgers in the World Series. laugh

Machado plays dirty too. That play at first base was deliberate. Should be thrown out of the game for crap like that.

I disagree. I think they have pussified baseball too much. I think they need to go back a few years and let them play all out.

I swear to god that ump called a hitter out on a dropped foul tip or third strike. I'm still baffled on what happen there.

Had he not had his questionable slides the other night, and had he not looked down THEN dragged over Aguilar's ankle, and IF he didn't already have shady dealings in many other instances this year, I would agree with you. Machado is quite the tool.

I kind of like him Ice Rat, of course he's not playing against my Cubs today either. However he stands a chance of playing for them next season, which I'd love to see.

Anyway, back to today's game, it's not looking good for the Brewers. Dodgers have done a good job of shutting them down, through the 8th. Looking like it'll be 3-2 series for the Dodgers.

Dodgers have made very good hitting adjustments to counter the Brewers pitching and that is putting men on the bases along with for some reason a lot of long at bats, walks and seeing a lot of pitches gives the hitter advantages.
Also we are being out played in several aspects of the game these last couple games.

The Dodgers have done a good job of neutralizing the Brewers MVP, who's name sounds like the sound you make when you throw up. lol

They better straighten up when they go back home or they'll be watching the WS like my Cubbies. frown

There was a runner on base, I think 2nd. Therefore the batter isn't allowed to try to run out a dropped strike 3.

The dodgers hitters started hitting the other way beating the brewers shift. Might want to rethink the shift.

Yeah, it seems the Dodgers have had enough time to figure out the Brewers pitching and overall defense. At least the Brewers have a little time to make adjustments. Being at Miller Park and the home crowd will help.

The Brewers have to start hitting the ball if they want to advance. Their unconventional approach to pitching has worked pretty darn well but the lack of timely hits has got them in a big hole. They need to getem on, getem over and getem in!

I have noticed that it seems the Brewers take more "bad swings" than their opponents, mostly low and outside. This seems to occur in pressure situations.

The Brewers have been well scouted as to hitting. I am sure most teams do this well but many Brewers are being outmatched.
Agular can hit the outside pitch to the opposite field and with power so he swings at those but they are locating those sliders out about 6 inches and fading away and he can't reach those with his stance.
Yelich was hitting a lot of higher fast balls for home runs and also driving to the opposite field. They are doing a lot of low stuff and low and in.

A lot of the right handed hitters are quite vulnerable to the down and in sliders that are hard to hit and the Dodgers are not hanging many of those.

The Dodgers are shortening their swings and hitting the ball where it is pitched and thus not pulling as much so defenses are not aligned well for those ground balls.
Many Dodgers are very good fast ball hitters so once they time the 94-97 mph pitches they can hit them. Note that Miley who throws with much less velocity was not hit hard in his game.

Good points. The Dodgers seem to have done an uncanny job of figuring out how to pitch the Brewers.

Well, you Brewers fans are going to be on your own this weekend! I am doing a gun show up in Eau Claire all weekend and will be driving back and forth, most likely missing the games.

Tell the Brewers Ol' Moosetrot is still behind them! I'm just lucky the Packers have a bi-week! Don't think the folks at the gun show would appreciate me prancing around in my Green and Gold thing, anyway.

Getting tighter. The Dodgers are good in the late innings we need to really focus on our pitching and D as the bats have gone silent the last couple innings.

Looks like they will be waiting til after tomorrows game to find out. I think its nice of the Dodgers to throw this game so the ball park will make all the $$$ on the next game. laugh

Tonights version was the Brewer team I've been used to listening to all season. Wow, is this exciting.

Do you know why Iowa doesn't have a Major league team?

Good thing you already got yours Zim--you can lend it to Moosey when the need arises.

Strange comment ADC. We like our beloved Brewers and won't trade 'em for anything. For the smallest market in the league, what they are accomplishing is amazing.

I'm listening to it on the radio now. Chacin came out WAY earlier than I expected.

I'm still trying to figure out why the Brewers pulled their ace. All day I've been looking forward to Chacin pitching.

Seems Puig made up for his terrible defense. I wouldn't rest easy yet though if I was Dodgers fan. Still a lot of ballgame left!

I think the pitching game tonight has been over-coached by the Brewers. Too much figuring on what might happen.

Very accurate statement.

I guess if the batters don't do something, then it won't matter though.

We did not win and that seems to all that matters in the modern age, but as you can see below we did very well when you compare our team salary with all the rest of the major league teams.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/236206/payroll-of-major-league-baseball-teams/

As to supporting the Red Sox. They are good but I am a national league fan and enjoy the type of baseball played in the NL more.
With the DH the American league averages a whole .02 points higher than the NL in team batting average and drive in only 25 more runs per team over 162 games. That to me does not add very much excitement to the game and takes away a lot of the managing of the game as it is played. The one thing it probably does do is helps AL starting pitchers pitch more innings and get more strikeouts etc. Pitchers are really only removed for pitching strategy and not also due to the need to have a better hitter at the plate in a specific situation.

NL is the easy league....Pitchers only have to worry about 8 hitters ....lots of easy outs.

The American league pitchers will be the easiest outs of all, probably can't even bunt. smile

Yup...they are paid to pitch..and that’s it. Why pay a pitcher 30 million a year and have him throw his shoulder out, swinging a bat. This isn’t little league .

Yes maybe the AL does not want a 20 million dollar per year player swinging a bat but if one looks at 36 official at bats per game as the norm times 162 games per year the difference between .259 and .257 over 5800 plus official at bats per season is 11 hits per team per year. A lot of easy outs in the AL as well. Also they use 15 million dollar players that can only swing and can't run well, throw or field to take the place of pitchers.
I still like the NL game better even though they statistically may not have as many top players, I still like that type of game. MLB has changed considerably to meet fans approvals but not as much as the NFL has changed. Pretty soon they will need to buy the $2 flags that go with the $5,000 helmets and uniforms etc. that they wear.

You got me smile. You found one. It’s no secret though, Lester has difficulty throwing to the bases.
