Is anyone, other then those in Alaska and Canada maybe, trapping for fur now?I do ADC work off and on all year but am thinking about putting out some coyote traps. Because of back problems I haven't trapped in a couple years and I am getting a little antsy. Coyotes and skunks are all that is open, classified as predators, that may be close to getting prime. I was just wondering when do you start?

I don't start here on any critters until the end of October beginning of November.

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine!

I don't plan on starting until the middle of November. Except for western bobcats and coyotes there is little value in them and even less of they are not prime.

Our early coyotes brought $50 to $60 last year so that has got my juices flowing.

Why would you think Alaskan seasons would be open before the fur is prime? Most still are not except the war on beaver and wolves. Slowly it is turning into the lower 48 where trapping opportunities are about fun not money; but not yet.

Sorry we do have a war on coyote here in my area starting October 15.

Dirt. I was thinking Alaska and Canada may prime earlier due to the days getting shorter earlier. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Our fur seasons start Nov. 1 except for bobcat just sit wondering when everyone else started.

I agree we probably trigger fur growth earlier, but different species and animals grow their winter coats at different rates. I wouldn't say all of the coyotes here are prime by Nov 10. Best guess would be 75% maybe less.

The way I see it, it's better to get 3/4 the money if not fully prime than not getting it at all later

We get good coyotes by mid October down here. Not all of them though.

Lower Alabama here - Prime fur (if at all) is found late December to middle February. Just my opinion, if others in the area could chime in, I would "feel the love". Or just be educated.
