Will be using a 22 pistol for coon and want to make as little noise as possible. Will a 22 Short HP get the job done or do I need a 22 LR HP?

.22 shorts is all I use from coyotes to coons.

I use the cheapest 22LR HP bulk pack that I can find on my coon line.

I never saw a 22 that wouldn't kill a coon at point blank. Have killed several with 22 birdshot in attics when you get close enough to touch the barrel to their heads. No pass through, no roof damage.

Same here, only I tried the subsonic 22LR. Only tried them when I was out of CCI 22 SHORT HP. I'm well stocked up on CCI 22 SHORT HP.

Subsonics are nice and quiet, easy on the ears and get the job on coyotes, head or double lung they geterdone

I've had 22s stop and expand just inside the skin on big coon when shot in the head, CCI mini mags is all I use now.

Being close helps the 22 shorts do what is needed.

My favorites as well out of my revolver.

Remington ceebee for me

Shorts or sub Sonics for coon. I found them a lil lacking on coyotes. Yes they can work, but some coyotes don’t set still for the shot.

Shorts out of my pistol.

If test them. Sub sonic might not be much louder than a short.

Anything we have here, we have subsonics, LRs, shorts, you name it.

I’ve used them all. CCI QUIET is one of my favorites but I used a pile of shorts too. Made the mistake of confusing the QUIET with the mini mags before. Butchering hogs. It made for an interesting morning.

when I use my 22 I try to have 22 shorts. Usually just 1 hole.

I like the CCI quiets as well.

CCI quiets for me as well. They are accurate out of my old pistol at skunk range, quiet and usually don't exit.
