Was deer hunting this past week and was talking to a guy that stopped by camp that told us about this map program that had all kinds of layering and GIS information.
Any thoughts from users good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

Yes,It shows land ownership and property lines. It has a "offline" feature that works well when cell reception is bad. I like it a lot, it makes knowing where you are easy.

A couple of my friends have it. I was sceptical but after seeing how it works, I'm going to get it. Good imagery, you can GPS your tracks and see how far you walked. You can pull up topo lines and pull in timber sales and past Wildfires in the mountains. Worked awesome on our elk hunt in colorado. Also has worked well out antelope hunting when finding out who owns the land to call and ask permission when you want to go after something. Two thumbs up!

I have used Onx for many years. They were originally HuntingGPSmaps.
I have found them invaluable for hunting, Particularly out of state areas. We have killed lots of antelope in Wyoming because we can access areas that have mixed Public / Private land ownership and can tell exactly where we are.
I use the GPS chip and it works really well. I had it on my phone for a while and din't like it at all.

A friend has a mapping ap on his phone that is supposed to show property lines. I don't know the name of it.
My neighbor and I were looking at it and found that it had our property lines off by nearly a hundred feet or so in many places based upon surveys we have both had done. My property was surveyed in 2004, his 8-10 years ago. My property is 86 1/2 acres and his in 188.

If a logging crew used the ap for timber cuts they could find themselves in big trouble.

OnX 30 dollars a year. I find it to be extremely accurate. They encourage you to download maps on phone for when you have poor cell reception. I think it's worth it.

Help yourself.

I bought it a couple of months ago to support a DIY antelope hunt in Wy. It worked exactly as advertised. In hindsight I really didn't need it because the public areas I hunted were small, fenced, and well marked at the road, however that will not always be the case. You can sign up with them for a free trial period and see how it works for you.

I bought the entire US and a "chip" (actually a mini SD card) for the state of Wyoming to go in my GPS. You can use the program on a PC and in the field you can use it on a GPS (with state specific chip) or on a smart phone after downloading a free app. The smart phone will access GPS coordinates without cell tower service (or while on airplane mode to save battery power).

Some of the landowner data may be outdated. I moved here 3 years ago but the Onx map still shows the previous landowner. With large tracts of land in the west that should be less of an issue.

My son subscribed this spring during our midwest turkey trip. Worked very well to ID parcels and property lines.

I use it for hunting and trapping here in nv for the last 3 years, it really helped on my antelope hunt, I also store data points in it when hiking like were I see chucker, or lots of coyotes. I ran it this year with my blm maps to see how good they were, onx maps had more roads and trails then the map did, all the property lines were the same. We had an early snow and rain storm come in with low clouds, so it was nice to have the GPS to tell you were where. You could not see any land marks.

That can come down to the phone itself. Or whether one made sure they had good satellites like any gps

Thanks I just got it....works great, funny thing is I was just going to the township where I wanted to pick up a plat map for an area I was bowhunting and trapping and I found this post...got this instead....although it’s a little inaccurate as far as the landowners around my house, it accurate enough for the area I’m hunting...thanks

Did you get the app or the chip? If chip then maybe it needs the most recent update? Also, many properties don’t have the name you think on their ownership. Notsaying that’s the case for you. Just bringing up because some people don’t realize. Overall I’m guessing you’ll be happy

^^^^^^^ I just paid for a year subscription for my state...I’m just using it on my phone...
3 of my neighbors are incorrect.. not sure why?

All the farms I hunt and trap are correct plus I found more land that it didn’t even know the state or energy company owned
along the river...that’s a great find. ...so I’m happy with this mapping system...

I got the app this year. Pretty happy with it so far. It shows old roads where I elk hunt that aren’t on the forest service maps. Camofire.com has the app for $18 every other week or so.

For those that find errors this is a link to report them and get them fixed. onx

They say they update their system about once a year, but sometimes get tax info that is between 1-3years old and in a rare occorunce up to 10 years old.

I would only expect it to become more accurate. I have watched my county and the counties surrounding it go from plot books every year or to, to a county internet site, interactive tax map with up to date info

I have had it for two years and have only done the $29.99 for a single state and love it!! Well worth the money and when the wife gives the all clear I'm going to get all 50 states. I have found it to be very accurate within 20-30 feet and have used it to peacefully resolve a property dispute with a neighbor. I also use it the most during trapping season I do a lot of beaver trapping for farmers and normally the directions are "hang a left on that one road and it's the third field on the right" so it helps so much with making sure I'm were I need to be and is more reliably then my old plat book. The nice thing they offer a free trial so I would do that and see what you think.
