What total length do you personally like to use? What cable diameter? What type of strand 1x19, 7x7 or 7x19 other? On average how many do you use a season? What is your target? What is your preferred loop size? Do you use loaded, over load or no load. This is for survey information only so just please be general. Thank you.

I use Crs.
The loop end of my Cr Is built using 1x19x3/32s cable. Then I have a inline barrel swivel. The rest of the Cr is built from 7x7x3/32s. The 1X19 Is chew resistant and holds A nice loop when It's loaded. And It's a lot faster closing then 7x7.
When I re order I just buy the loop end and reuse the barrel swivel and the 7x7 end.
Length wise we are limited to 7'. I think mine are a bout 6'+ we need 40 some inches to form a 12" loop and we can place our loop 12" off the ground so we need another 12" plus you need to be able to get back to the ground to stake It. So anything under 6' Isn't going to cut It.
TH e7X7 unravels so easy the coyote Is just chewing On individual strands of cable. I had way to many coyotes that chewed out with the 7x7.
Hey Newt did I do Ok.
I wish we could use real snares.

Depends on the target. For cats and fox,the snare is 1/16- 1x19 or 7x7 just big enough to make a 7 inch loop 6 inches off the ground with a cam or adams lock the proper size hole for the cable(very important). When I make snares from 1x19 I load them. These are always set to be lethal, and are tied off with doubled 14g wire which is also the support. For wolf I use an 6 foot snare,3/32 12 to 16 inches off the ground. It is cabled directly to a solid anchor high. These are also lethal set.I use the amberg wedge lock with a heavy kill spring.I use a section of gas line as a whammy in order to support the loop at the lock and still be able to adjust the loop for the coverage required at the snare site. After a catch the good end of the snare is re-purposed as an extension. I have hundreds of snares out in the bush,at jackpots, not all are activated the same season,so all my snares are dyed and waxed to prevent degradation from the elements.I never replace any snares during the season, just pick up fur.I replace any snares at the beginning of the season when I activate the jackpot.Tie wires on fox and lynx snares are re inforced at this time. I only snare beaver under ice, beaver snares are made of 1/16 7x7 with a cam or adams lock. They are only long enough to make a 10 inch loop,And are tied to the pole in pairs with doubled 14 ga wire.

WE are getting off subject. The question was concerning CRs not lethal snares.

48" x 1/16th x 1 x 19 stainless with loop ends and a stainless slim lock or Newt's lock for foxes. Same specs for beaver but I sometimes move up to 5/64ths.
All fox snares are overloaded.
Always use minimum of 6ft x 1/8th extension with swivels.
Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

People who dont use whammies or tubing, how do you support your snare?
And I have several hundred, target our wolf/coyote things, use a ten foot length of cable, 3/32 7x7 dyed and waxed

Hutchy,a dead animal cant chew out, lol. You have to set your snares to be lethal. If you set snares in the open without a kill pole you are just setting a cable restraint.I have re used cat snares on many occasions after a catch, they go lights out real quick on a kill pole.If you are setting snares to be lethal and you have frayed wire from chewing,a catch circle or waterhead, that is telling you that you are doing something wrong, and need to tweak your methods or seek a better location to make your sets.

[quote=Leary Sink]Newt Will you adopt me so I can use all copper ferrels on my snares and extentions? Even though Im surrounded by salt water like you, I just cant afford them bad boys all the time.😁[/quote
It only hurts once. Then you get peice of mind. How much is that worth. Once you go all Stainless Steel. You'll never go back.

I prefer 60", 1x19 with an extra mid-line swivel, I run about 100 during our 2.5 month season on average, I set my loop at 9 inches wide, 9 inches off the ground, as I target coyotes only but will hip catch nearly any fox that might come through, all pre-loaded.

60" cable restraints. Reverse bend washer cuz it's the only option here. Twist on supports. No surgical tube for me for support! Painted cables. Been using 7x7 3/32 cable but picked up '1000 of 1/19 to try this year.
Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine!

Length: 40". Built for kill poles, I run extensions on snares not attached to kill poles. Cable size: 5/64th 1X19 loaded. How many: 100 or so for coyotes. Loop size: 12" because it's state law. Steel whammies because of the solid lock up I get off of the kill poles and I don't like messing with plastic/rubber whammies in sub zero temps. No kill springs, I use entanglement to apply constant pressure on the lock.
Locks: Slim, bullet & teethed death blows.

I put that rubber In the freezer for a week and It never got hard. It's used as gas line so if It got hard It wouldn't be a good choice for that application.
