All of my beaver trapping using lure has so far been with castor based lure. How does making sets with dobbins Woodchipper differ from a castor mound set in set construction?

I have a good idea, but wanted to ask those who have successfully used it.

I usually use it with popple at bait sets.

Last year I set a 330 below a bank slide. Nothing hit for 10 days. I then put a little Woodchipper on a stick and stuck it in the bank. Next check I had a 57 pounder . No castor mound.

Put a little Woodchipper on a stick just at the water level in the bank. And set a foot hold on a drowner below the water level about 6” and offset, just in front of the bait.

Basically I find an easy place to narrow their approach onto the bank. I peel a few sticks down to the white for eye appeal and stick them into the bank where they can be seen as far as possible. Then dip one of the sticks in the food lure, poke it into the bank above the water line, do another that has the lure touching or half in/half out of the water if there isn't much current. If it's a good lure it will put a slick on the water radiating out from the set. Then set the trap how you like to in the narrowed area. Actually I usually set the trap first, lure after.

One of the sets I like using Woodchipper at is what I call a pass-through set. I take a dead log, 3 - 6 inches in diameter and lean it against a tree in the water. The gap between the tree and log is about a foot at the water line. I put a snare in that gap and put a dab of Woodchipper on the log leaning against the tree. It's taken a lot of beavers for me over the years.

Woodchipper is my "go to" trick when castor-based lure doesn't work anymore. I usually catch what I can using castor scent. Then I go with Woodchipper. It's like it catches beaver off guard. I don't know if it's a food based or curiosity lure. But, it really works for that hard to catch beaver.

is it better to go to castor first, then Woodchipper, or is a food based lure like Woodchipper best, then castor when they get wise to that?
