This off topic, my check engine lite on 2010 colorado wt with 4 cyl came on today an had free engine code scan at shop, came back for evap system, was quoted $150 to $200 possible, was told that it really does nothing except emmision an only thing is, I won't know if problem with something else with lite on, start an idle, performance normal, not sure on gas milage as notice increase before lite on but colder an drive 10 over speed limit on way work an idling, when cold, I call advance auto an canister purge solenoid is common problem an more likely than expensive canister, $27 part, not sure if located part above donut spare wheel in rusted bracket cover as bad place for rust an gravel road dirt, not sure how easy remove, anyone know about location these parts? U tube vid say it below alternator but other say, where I looking, anyone know if makes any difference in performance if don't replace?parts store say it does in gas mileage but shop Say that really does nothing
Purge valve would be under the hood, the vent valve would be somewhere near the gas tank. If you have it could you post the code number they got from the computer.
Your entitled to oxygen. Everything else is earned.
Man, I am about 9 beers in and I am pretty sure I need another six pack to understand what you typed. But I think I would go with the $27 part, what ever that is. I go to napa for my parts. They seem to know way more than our local auto zone. More than once I have had to go back to auto zone to get the right part.
To the point, ask the guys that have done the check for you about were to find these things. If that fails and you can not find it on youtube, do as I do. Take it your your shade tree mechanic and say, here, fix it.

The code don't give u exact part, at shop he said one of 2 things, I believe solinoid vent valve by gas tank but unsure, any shop is all business an good price, he did say almost for certsin 1 part, it got be part they say at store that a common wear out, not positive wear located, probly best canister. Performance an idle Is normal, not sure if should try, or sav for something else, if it just for emmision, idk at all for what little it does, especially when not lots $$
After watching vid again an see the problems with just put solenoid in without charcoal canister involved with possibility new electric wire an problems with mount bracket an old hose an after get under pickup an seeing that u are feeling around above u an can't see what going as covered by bracket. An shop guy telling me that it does nothing except for emmision except ur check engine lite Is on an well not know if any future problems, I think I pass on this job, anyone know anything much about these? I have noticed nothing in vechile performance, the vid is exactly what mine is like
I order all my auto parts on line that I don't need immediately. They are always cheaper than the supply places around here anyway. Order tires that way too.
I bet shops really frown if come in with tires an want mounted that are new. They like make money. Cheapest price I been able find tires is goodyear, mounted an balanced lite truck tires are about $600 for 4, For not cheapest tire but way from most highest, u might get $50 off on cheaper tires for all 4, I was told that Colorado's are good at cupping tires or uneven wear on inside tires, I rotate often an they still are, maybe it all small pickups
What sized tires Dave? I have local guys that mount and balance tires. I pay them about $10/tire. They never complained about bringing my own tires in.
The chances of a bad fuel cap are rather high. It fixes around 85 percent of EVAP problems in our shop. I have changed around 20 or 30 this year alone. Not saying that it's your problem, but from what was described that is where I would start.

I believe that. Fuel caps have been a frequent problem in my experience.
