Here it is. The thread to post your pictures of your catches this season

As in the past 2 seasons I'm starting out with a raccoon in one of my canine sets


Usually the first few coons in my canine sets are big boars. But this was a fat sow

I couldn't take it any longer and set the bottom side of a bridge with a couple DPs. The ponds were starting to freeze over and it just felt like trapping weather. Now it's warmed back up in to the 50s. They're obviously early, but I'll still put them up. Bowhunters wanted these thinned out anyways due to all the corn they've been eating from feeders. First week of November I plan on going all out, till then I've scratched the itch.


Here is what the leather looked like after skinning them out. This was just after fleshing, they turned blue throughout the next morning. When I set these traps the water next to where they were trapped had about a quarter inch of ice on it.

Sorry guys, Temp has little to do with the priming of fur. The pituitary gland, governed by the amount of daylight, triggers the blood flow toward and then away from the hide causing a winter coat to mature. Pray for dark, dreary, lots of cloudy weather if you want a prime coon before the normal date in your area. Have seen a few Octobers like that and the fur bearers can be ready to take 7-10 days before you normally would, but if you have an itch it is hard to not scratch it so I can relate.... the mike

First yote of the year, this morning

Son wanted to check the traps out behind the house this morning before he went to school, called me as he was walking in the dark and said there was one barking

I put my boots on and headed out back, only about 200-250 yards from our back door. This fella had been showing up on camera about every 2-3 days Trap was about 30 yards from where he had been walking and triggering camera Sets were put in Monday afternoon

Fur not thick or even ready for this market But I have a market for it when tanned with feet on so I'll make $

Can't seem to get pictures to load. Have never had a problem before. I have cropped and still says to big. I am doing same.as.always. any ideas?

Click on Properties to see how big your pic is. Then Open with Paint and resize so they are no larger than 2.09 MB and you should not have a problem posting them. Cropping may work but sometimes the file will still be too large. Just make sure you save then after you resize them to 2 MB or less.

Opens Nov1 here. If you ask me I’ll say it’s better to wait till thanksgiving on the coon here. I shoot for a self imposed Nov 10 start date. Butttt I usually will have a few in the ground on opening day! No will power I guess! Lol p.s. great pics so far ! Keep em coming!

I posted in another thread about forgetting to test a bait.
This is the results.
Test bait on each end,skunk pod in the middle.
I think the bait works.
And yes they are still running. I will catch them again later when they are prime

Another good coyote set ruined by a coon. At least this was a big nice looking boar. Water logged fields and sets have caused me to lose some momentum though.

Did put 12 sets in on a new property today. Will see if that produces Hopefully not a bunch of opossum, so far no opossum this season

With all the rain I haven't been able to make any fresh sets in several days and been busy, so happy to have at least picked up three more coon today. Only got 6 sets left and waiting for it to dry up before making new sets.

This little fox has been tearing up my coyotes sets this week. She would dig dirt over the trap and it would freeze solid. I got tired of it real fast and made a set with less pan tension. She won't be doing that anymore!

29 years this year. Here’s a picture of one of our days catch. It seems like it was just yesterday that I was a ten year old tagging along with Dad on the Trapline. I’m a lucky guy to have the Instruction I’ve had. Here’s to many more day catches like this with the best trapping partner a guy could ask for.

This guy cleaned out this set the other day. Reset, rebaited and moved the trap slightly. I suspect him of pulling pan covers off of other sets along the road way that lead to this spot over the last week or so.

It's a #2 I had set with a hair trigger for some mink running along the side of a culvert. I think it's a long tail, his tail is 6-7" long. The other weasels I've been catching have 3-4" tails.

WoodL. Had the same thing happen this morning. Have had a fox showing up on camera every 3 days. Set for it and got a opossum. There was never a opossum on that trail cam.

Youngest one is hoping for a cat for Christmas .... We will see.

Thanks. I think that was the same one I had on the trail cam. I wasn't far from where the pic was taken.

I just looked at the weasel, and it does have yellowing on the back legs and tail area.

A buddy of mine caught a possum in a #3 bridger that had 3 feet in the trap. No telling what it was doing to make the trap fire.

It definitely is! I haven't caught very many, maybe 7-8 but this is definitely my best one. It has real nice spots that go all the way up its back. Usually our bobcats have very little spots and just all brown backs...people usually call them rabbit backs lol.

Nice to see everyone's catches. I finally got 5 sets out on Saturday afternoon ( knee surgery in mid October had me laid up ) and I connected on Christmas morning wwith a nice female coyote . I'd post the picture but I'm not even close to smatr enough to figure that out.

I was born in Elko and lived in Winnemucca where my family is from but I've spent most of my life in Reno. I live on Peavine mountain right below those towers on top and only trap within a mile of my place.

Okay, I'm not far from you. I live in NW Reno..
I'm retired now, and was laid up the past three seasons for medical reasons. This year, I decided to give it a try, and so far if I push my back to it's limits while taking it easy, it seems to be working and I'm making a decent catch. It's kind of bittersweet though, there's a lot of nice looking places I just can't get to and I'm forced to remember a time before my back gave in on me. But no matter, beats sitting and puttering around the homestead.

5 weeks ago I got a double (photos on the weasel thread) on LT's @ 1,500' they were both brown. Then I had to pull traps for awhile and got the lines back out mid-December @ 3,000' but I was too late cause the white one is beginning to discolor already (not readily visible in the photo), so I dropped back down to 2,000' and got those browns about only 2 miles away from each other. The window of opportunity for the white phase is so short just a few weeks. The brown phase is much longer; from about late Nov until late Jan/early Feb here.

Any leasts (Mustela nivalis) there yet?

Joe,My truck and I have been out of commission for a bit so I haven't done much but run a short cat line.Maybe in a couple weeks.I haven't seen many weasel tracks of any kind,so far though.

First fisher ever for me. somehow he wiggled the trap off the stake and i had to go on a little tracking job for him right before Christmas when there was old crusty snow. Not the best for tracking.

Yea Boco I'm in Roan Mountain which is 6300 ft elevation so we get more snow than the rest of the state

My 8 yr old daughter snared her 1st two mink today. She punded in 80% of the stake, set the loop, and hooked it into the poly support. Then after some guidance she set the loop size and height.

Thanks, that yote was definitely a fighter, he was all scared up with bite marks and wasn't very friendly.

Yea Joe 3 of the last 4 coyotes I caught this past week were rubbed pretty bad but the one was really nice. I don't ever get to start til 2nd week of January when deer season closes. Last few years I've had very few rubbed ones but this year seems more are than not. Fox still look nice and bobcat are great shape

Thanks for the compliments guys, I'm learning. We have a healthy population of coyote and bobcat around here, but they are not the best quality. I only run 5-8 traps at a time because of working and taking the kids to school I don't have much time. Hopefully one day I can run a real line
