I’m 21 years old and looking for a job. I was recently laid off from working at the local electric Cooperative and I am looking for something new. I have the opportunity to start working at another cooperative here but I want to take this chance to travel somewhere new and work. I grew up working on a farm, graduated from University of Alaska Fairbanks in Aviation Maintence. I have an A&P Certificate, Class A CDL, I’m a fast learner and a hard worker. Let me know if you have anything.

Read today there are 7.1 million unfilled jobs. Good luck with your search. At least you want to work.

I definitely enjoyed the aviation industry and these Co-Ops are good jobs but I just want to take this time to explore and have some new experiences before I get older and don’t have the ability to move around freely.

Sounds like the world is your oyster. My advice would be to pick the location you want to move to, and look for work there. There's probably demand for long range truck drivers, that's one way to see lots of country and get paid to do it.

The Marines are always looking for a few good men. Only if you can hang. Go talk to an officer recruiter. You don't habe to make any commitments. Just talk. Tell him you want to fly.

Some advice for you young man, take the job you have a chance at there as good jobs are not out there. Wait for your vacation time, choose an area and visit it to satisfy your wanderlust. Then make your decision. As a friend of mine said about the North Dakota oil boom before the bust, "That is a young man's game" and he got old as a young man locating to that area. He is now a lineman.
Don't waste your youth chasing dreams. You do that when you earn enough at age 50 to retire. Get your seniority and save your money.

Home is where the heart is. Find your place. I was lucky to get a great job close to the swamp. swing shift sucks but it gives me the chance to give my kids the education so they do not need to do what I do. I passed on several jobs that would have paid a good bit more but I would have had to spend alot of time away from my family.

Search the world over, but, at some point there will be a girl that will steel your heart.

Would you rather regret the things that you did or things that you did not do? I regret the things that I did not do.

If you want to elevate your chance at a fulfilling military adventure, by all means check out the USAF. You don't have to be a Marine, you can do a lot better. whistle

That is one of the things I regret. I would have joined up but, it was 02 and my high school sweat heart preferred I be alive. Now I have 3 kids with her, I do not regret it. Hind sight being what it is. Forever in debt to those that have made this possible for me.

Thank you.

Whatever you decide, dont get stuck in a job that you don't like just for money.
Pick a job that you really like to do,and it will be easy for you to advance.
If your young enough try different jobs and don't be scared to walk away from them to find something better.

The USAF does have better planes. But at least you know when ours run out of hydraulic fluid. They just stop leaking. Lol.

Dylan, oil fields TX-ND- Alberta-Dubia-etc.
Line work-communication work "cable".
CDL Drive a truck OTR.
Rail Roads are giving $3000 referral bonuses for certain jobs.
I disagree with some above--GO-DO NOW while you are young-see the country-World.
(This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) sure don't wait till you are in your 50-60's to do this as age sucks.

I have a 23 year old that has worked lineman jobs NE-TX-ID-MI and now railroad in IL till spring then off doing lineman work again in TX-OK etc. the line companies call him. Yes this makes me proud as a father to have companies calling my son to come work for them. Superb work ethics pay great dividends.

Or learn how to weld like my other son and he travels all over mainly pipe.

Be smart on your 2 am decisions-an oops can tie you down somewhere you werent ready to stay or land you in a bunch of trouble.. “Ill do that later” isnt always realistic, so dont pass up something you really want to do. Find a job that would allow you to transfer within a company-allows you to move if you want something or somewhere new but you can keep seniority within the company or move for promotions if you choose. Eventually you’ll find a place that feels right and hopefully you decide to stay on your own- its not decided for you.

don't go otr. the way things are done now choose something else. reno isn't the only place hauling on construction sites is an option. plenty of work decent money. if you do any kind of construction expect lots of mandatory overtime. downside to construction is that construction is the first to slow in an economic downturn. anything that goes up must come down.

probably need to decide where you want to live first. right now there is work everywhere. employers are competing for employees. especially those with a skill to sell

There are a lot of contractor positions overseas supporting the US government. Great pay and usually a few months forward followed by some time off. It's a chance to see some of the world and have some time and money to travel when you're not on contract.

It's always easier to get hired if you already have a job. Take the co-op position and keep looking.

Update: Thank you all for your advice and help. I have a phone interview today and tomorrow. One of them is for a missionary position in something called “The World Race”. You travel to 11 different countries in 11 months spreading the gospel. I would really appreciate your prayers because this is my hearts desire. If I get this I will have to work until August next year before I leave. So keep the ideas coming.

When I was 18 I started a tool and die apprenticeship, figured I could get a job anywhere after I was a journeyman. Retired after 44 years working at it and live across the street from where I grew up. Marriage and family has a way of doing that, wanted to head to Alaska, never got there. Happy Alaska day to those that are there.

Boy you asked for it and you received and will continue to... I don't have any advice for you, cept I know you'll tear it up wherever you land and hopefully will give us an update from time to time!

On second thought I think you should find a position in the fashion industry promoting wild fur. Your IG posts will rise to an entirely new level in that industry!

If God is calling you to the missions field then listen, truly a walk in faith. At 21 you got life by “” “”. Personally I feel your like the oil field options aren’t going away in the next year or two. I think big Johns advise about looking at the marines or some other branch of the military is very solid advise. If your not looking for big commitment just yet, but want big adventure look into a guide school. After graduating they could place you with an outfitter. I went to guide school at 19 , then spent the next 5 yrs working for an outfitter in western Montana. I can promise you I look back on those days with very strong feelings of satisfaction. Some of the best 5yrs of my life. Plus I’ve still found time to log 20 yrs into a good profession. Good luck, don’t be afraid to try and fail at your age.

Best thing is life is/are options!!!!!!

With no woman or baby to support, no addictions to ruin your life, and not hampered by too much debt, you have no one to answer to...now is the time.

I would shoot Zag a PM ASAP, in his business he has work going on all over I would suspect.

Good help is EXTREMLY hard to find and keep these days.

At 21, I was already married and had two kids. Failure was not an option, traveling for fun was not an option, living a 21 year old males life was not an option. I worked. I had to and I had to A LOT. Once she said "I'm pregnant", it wasn't about my wants, needs or desires anymore, it was about providing for the family I helped create.
I love my life and family, and I thank God every day for the way it has turned out. But if I had it to do over again, I would live for myself a little longer, before starting a family.
I say, live your life FOR YOU! If you feel called to do some missionary work, GREAT! Do it and enjoy every second! Things happen in life that you don't expect and they can happen at anytime. Do what YOU want to do, just think it over good before jumping in.
Best of luck to you.

I have an "IN" if you would be interested in building those windmills out west. 380 feet up and 60-80 hrs a week. Hot as heck in the summer. But the pay is great. PM me if interested. They are always looking for men to hire.

Try Freeport Mining in AZ: mining is not for everyone: but they have all trades and crafts and may teach you a new one; AZ offers great hunting and the scenery is incredible. Mine are very remote usually an hour to any form of civilization and 3 hours to Phoenix or Tucson: distance is measured in time out there not miles.

Even before I read this, my answer to you was Pray. Seek the Lord and He will guide you. Only your relationship with the Lord will last forever. We have no promise of tomorrow. The Lord will lead and guide you daily if you seek His guidance. At times, He will lead you into things you may never understand on Earth. At times He will lead you into difficulties in which years to come you may reflect on how He has grown you and utilized your life. Your life is no longer your own if you have been forgiven and bought with a price. The Lord has placed this desire in your heart for a reason. Even if this doesn't work out right now, still continue to seek His will for your life and continue to pray for His wisdom. I would encourage you to refresh yourself in Timothy and go over Proverbs again. He is faithful to guide you. I pray that God guides you and directs your path in His will.

I should add, there is nothing I would be more proud to hear from my son who is now 8 than - Dad, I want to go spread the gospel. Nothing, absolutely nothing would make me as a father more proud.

Consider in all of this if you’re married. If you’re single-go for it. If you’re married, she gets 50% of the vote. If you’ve got kids, grandparents get a vote. Your life may not be your own

If you have a four year degree, your probably over qualified for the marines. Just go see your local Army Recruiter. It’s like my recruiter told me, “ if you like hunting, hiking, and camping you’ll love the infantry.” I don’t know if I’d go that far. One of the best things I’ve ever done. Look into GEjobs.com, their aviation division is fairly strong now. Keep checking, something may pop up your interested in.

Water & Wastewater Operators are in short supply all over the country. You could have your pick of where you want to live and make a good living doing it. Plus your electrical background would be a plus as all the process equipment is electrical.

If you want more info...PM me.

Good luck in your search.

A little update for everyone here. I really appreciate all the help. Due to some family health problems I have not taken off to start a new job yet. I have been helping some friends at their farm and fixing a few airplanes to stay busy.

I do have some exciting news as I was accepted into a program with Adventures in Missions, called The World Race! This is an 11-month mission trip that goes to 11 different countries after a training camp in Atlanta. My goal is to spend this time, not only working with those in need around the world, but to use this journey to discover what God would have me do with me life and grow in my relationship with him.

If anyone would like to become part of my support team and follow me through this adventure please message me or comment on here and I will be in contact with you.

Dylan, A close friends daughter just got back from this last month. It'll change your life. Sorry I didn't respond to your PM. Just saw it. If you want to touch base with her let me know. Lots of $$ to be raised.
