Found some of my traps from last season, and several still stink of skunk. I tried soaking in dish detergent and power washing, but it's still funky. Can any dip mask it? Thinking of using fmj over the color dips. Thanks.

lol not that I know of. You just have to neutralize it and you will be good to go.

I have two traps that caught skunk three years ago now. I have boiled them each year since. This year I boiled and waxed them, only to pull them out still smelling like skunk. I even left the things outside for a year in the snow/rain/etc. Skunks are some potent critters.

Use a good shot of quill at the set....or at least a lure with quill in it.

Boil in tannic acid...washing will not remove skunk essense.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Skunk Odour Removal

The solution that effectively removes skunk odours is:
1 litre of household 3% hydrogen peroxide
½ cup baking soda
1 tsp liquid dish soap
Mix well in a sufficiently large container.
Saturate affected area thoroughly.
Rinse immediately and well.
Do not cap or prepare ahead of time as this solution is volatile.
Unused liquid should be discarded immediately after application.
The treatment should be conducted outdoors.

How well this will work on a trap I do not know, but it is very effective on material and dogs.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

You never said what traps. If there able to cross over for water trapping then a couple of coons catches will help shrub them clean. I have a couple of DP's that had skunks in them. The are great coon catchers. Think about that !

Use bctomcat's mixture, it does work on traps. You do not have to cover the traps, just slosh them around in the mix for awhile, then hose them off.

There's a 450 for sure that's still hot, but it sat against my 550s and 650s, so I'm not sure how much transferred.

Was hoping to avoid peroxide on steel. Seen it obliterate gun parts from my blackpowder days.
