I'm about to wax & dye traps for the first time and I have a trap that got sprayed by a skunk! Will dyeing & waxing take the smell out? If I dyed it with the rest of my traps would it scent the other traps too?

It will NOT kill the stink, it WILL contaminate other traps and the wax. The skunk recipe works.

I have never had a problem if boiling them in sumac tops or similar. I don't think the dye you buy at trapping supplier has enough tannic acid to neutralize the smell.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

1 litre of household 3% hydrogen peroxide
½ cup baking soda
1 tsp liquid dish soap
Mix well in a sufficiently large container.
Saturate affected area thoroughly.
Rinse immediately and well.
Do not cap or prepare ahead of time as this solution is volatile.
Unused liquid should be discarded immediately after application.
The treatment should be conducted outdoors.

How well this will work on a trap I do not know, but it is very effective on material and dogs.

I always just dyed and waxed all the traps together, never "descented" a skunked trap from the past season. I wouldn't probably do it if it was still dripping skunk spray. lol

I throw mine in a creek (running water) for about a week, then move on with preparations.
