ive got a woodmaster outdoor wood stove. the water treatment that you put in it to stop rust and corrosion is about 50.00 bucks a gallon. is there any thing else out there that will do the trick that is cheaper.

$50 is cheap for the investment you have in it, I just spent $80 for 2 different additives to lube the pumps and treat the water to protect the system. Take the $50 hit and sleep better at night if you plug up your system what would that cost you?

I don't do the PH testing thing so I change the water every few years to protect the system.

Agree with Law Dog. The one thing I do not buy is the rust inhibitor powder that Central Boiler suggests to throw a scoop in the firebox every day. If you feel it necessary throw in a little barn lime now and again.

Yes! I bought a fifty gallon drum when I put my stove in about fifteen years ago. As long as the pumps run though cold weather though, you really don't need antifreeze. Just made me feel better, and also helps with the corrosion!

No need to antifreeze the system as it's heated by the furnace exchange unit even with no fire in the boiler just keep the pumps running and your heating the water when the furnace is running using the flame.

Once I go to boiler only (when it,s burning wood full time) the flame is not needed as the boiler heats everything as long as the pumps are running. Now here it's warm 60s during the day so I still run the flame in the furnace once it gets cold, cold I just flip the thermostat to boiler only so no propane is use then until spring.

Auto type antifreeze has a lube added to help lube the water pump shaft and seals for longer life. Ya can also get auto coolant additives for antifreeze to add every couple of years or so to keep the water pump slicked up. I don't know if they will work for a wood furnace or not but its probably a lot less $$$ than what the factory furnace people sell ya.

The first thing you need to know is what is the heat exchanger made of in the boiler. That is what tells you what you can use. Plus check the warranty it may require specific product.

Alternative heating and supplies out of CT has boiler chemicals. I order 2 gallons to save on shipping.

Buy a stainless steel stove and you don't have any of those problems. My stove is about 30 years old and I've never used any rust inhibitors.

For my $80 investment I used 3/4 of gallon of the protector and 1/2 a quart of the lube that seems pretty efficient for the cost right there! I can add the rest next year to boost the system so that's even better.
