Here in Nebraska we are receiving an early wet and heavy snow. Farmers were just getting an good start to harvest. Not good. A lot of corn is falling over due to stalk rot or other issues and the beans aren't fairing too well either. The trees have lots of leaves on and if it keeps snowing much more I am sure some branches will break due to the weight of the wet snow. Power outages will follow. If it stays cool and wet it will be a bad fall for farmers and early trappers too. Haven't had a fall like this wet and snowy one for years. Most young farmers never seen a wet fall. But this will make up for that.

Yeah, I thought so too. Thought I might be able to mow my lawn this afternoon. Not. Edges of the yard melted away but still 2 inches on the ground and it's supposed to be about 20 tomorrow morning. Might be gone by Monday afternoon. The rest of the week is supposed to be sunny. If the beans are still standing by Weds, they should be whacking 'em out later in the week!!

WI got it too. Western WI had a 1.5" of snow today too. The fields are a sloppy, greasy mess. Nothing is going to be harvested until freeze up if this keeps up.

Same weather here! Absolutely miserable. Can’t do my fox trapping this year now, and trapping opened up today!

I scooped four inches off the drive. Snowed from time I left church until later this evening.
Good thing I mowed yesterday (in a t-shirt and shorts) and got the hoses drained and rolled up. Supposed to be a hard freeze tonight, then pretty nice week ahead.
Farmers definitely need a break...it's been raining most of October non-stop save for yesterday.

I was out sitting in my deer stand through all that. Really kind of nice being out there, except my knees stuck out beyond my roof and got wet. No sign of any deer.

I'm thinking the foothold trappers that wait this year till after Thanksgiving better learn to snare. Just my opinion of course. I keep a pretty good check on fog days, and December doesn't look promising. My dad was talking to an older gentleman at the sale barn. He remembers when he was a kid they had to fly bales to cattle in central Nebraska due to snow amounts. This is exactly the type of fall he remembers leading up to that point.

If this ground freezes up before it dries up digging a trap bed will be a workout! Warmer and dry next week so it should dry up a lot if we get a little wind to go along with it!

That little bit of wet snow will melt away fast with a little rain or small rise in temp.Your ground doesn't look to be frozen at all.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
