Took the boys to a pumpkin patch today. Their prices were a rip off compared to other pumpkin patches. Didn't buy any there took them to a maize maze they got 3 little pumpkins for $5.
Here's the prices on the pumpkins from the patch

My youngest looks grumpy in the pic but he was having a blast.

A lot of farmers around here put pumpkins and gourds on a hay wagon and park them by the roads. You pay by the honor system. They are usually dirt cheap. Most charge a buck or less for pretty decent pumpkins or gourds. Some of the smaller gourds and pumpkins are 5 for a dollar. Giant pumpkins, you can barely move with two people, may go as high as 20 bucks.

Thanks.

Man I wish I could find farms here with those prices. I might have to go 30 minutes south. Lately the grocery stores are the cheapest around.

Tinknocker1, usually we have a garden but the past few years the soil went to junk and nothing will grow. I wanted to get it back right this year but time and health didn't let us.

Universitys will usually test your soil for free once per year. At least here in the MidWest they do. Can big time help you tailor your soil amendments.

Pumpkin farms hereabouts clear out their stock Thanksgiving week. 70% off down to free. Too late for Halloween, yet plenty of time for pie, soup, dehydrate, etc. I even feed cooked pumpkin to my dog.

Enjoy every minute of the time you spend with them while they're young. The youngest of our three boys left for college this fall. It's seems like they were all little boys just a short while ago.

It's great to see them doing well as young adults, but I sure miss having those adventurous little buggers hanging around and trying do everything dad was doing.........The youth hunting thread has me missing them more today than usual. frown

adam most places that grow pumpkins don't have to irrigate them for 4-5 months. im sure that is why they cost more where you are

Thanks 330.
Sure was snowy.
I think you're right Danny. Neighbors went to pumpkin patch about 45 east got 3 large pumpkins for $10 total. I am not sure where the ones pictured were from but someone would have to be drunk to pay those prices
